Did you used to write letters when you were 'courting'?

I've just watched an episode of the crown were Princess Margaret and Peter Townshend wrote letters during their romance. I'm relatively young but during the late eighties and early nineties in my teens when I was discovering girls and dating I used to always write, and receive letters from the girls I was seeing. They were a mix of soppy teenage pap, highly sexual imaginations of things we were going to do to each other and heartfelt confessions of undying love.

This was before the Internet and everything it entails and was a remedy to not it being able to say the words face to face. I suspect the kids don't write letters anymore but surely I wasn't the only one who did this.

Yes, up to about 2000.

I had some amazing letters that I finally got rid of recently. They were of their time though and not really relevant to my life anymore.

That's a lot.

I think I wrote one.
My adolescence was juxtaposed with phones/texts/messengers taking off.

I get the joke about writing 2k letters, but my experience was in the crossover.

Letters up until Uni and the first year of it, then emails and texts took over, but with a soupçon of letters which still meant stuff at the time.

No doubt, when I’m 75, I’ll be chatting about the crossover with people listening agape.

Tbf I think I mostly just offered a line in the bogs. Romantic fucker that I am… :-)

I got my first phone when I was 40 and was probably 45 when I first sent a text or used e mail.
I used to send letters to a certain Newfie. Any enclosed dick pics were drawings with some artistic licence ; )
