Different reactions to City and Arsenal defeats

I think we're over-reacting. Sure, the media responses to the two matches were stark. But I think that's more to do with the fact that no one expected anything of Arsenal, whereas they thought we might actually beat Barca. It's interesting in fact, that impartial observers in the media were perhaps more optimistic about our chances than a lot of fans. We're seen as a big club now but we don't quite have the self-confidence ourselves yet...

Plus, Arsenal were away, we were at home.

errrrr no Arsenal were at home too

So, Manuel Pellegrini, who’s the biggest club in Manchester now? Well, I’ll tell you one thing: Manchester United would have been bold enough to have a go at a visiting Barcelona. I have never been more disappointed in the performance of a team I had been looking forward to watching so much than I was by Manchester City on Tuesday night.

For the life of me, I cannot understand Pellegrini’s logic.
But to win the biggest prize in club football, surely you’ve got to be brave enough to go for it?

Maybe Pellegrini was so harsh in his post-match comments about the referee to deflect attention away from his tactics. Or maybe he was trying to take the heat off some of his senior players, who didn’t cover themselves in glory on the night.

Yaya Toure has been an absolute beast in the Premier League, but he had virtually no impact against his old club.

Vincent Kompany has been a fantastic captain, but I thought he was slow to step up and allowed Messi the space to get on the wrong side of Martin Demichelis in the build-up to the penalty.

I thought Pellegrini was brought in to inject more attacking swagger into City, not to have them chasing their tails in Europe.

There were people on Roberto Mancini’s case for being too negative, so where does that leave his successor?

City paid Barcelona too much respect. And you can’t tell me the Catalans would have got such an easy ride across town at Old Trafford.

You can’t tell me Sir Alex Ferguson, or David Moyes, would have ordered everyone in a red shirt behind the ball and sat tight for a goalless draw.

Pellegrini made some comments before the match about City being the biggest club in Manchester
Oh, and they have won the European Cup three times.

And they didn’t achieve that by parking the bus.

An absolutely classic example of a very average former player turned pundit .
He ignores the fact that what Pellegrini said was that we were the better club in Manchester " this season " - that puts a rather different look on it , eh Robbie - who could argue with that?
Presumably if we'd gone completely gung -ho against Barca and lost by 4 or 5 he would have been the first to condemn us for being naive tactically , against some of the best midfielders in the world.
Nice mention for his old buddy and dinner companion from Italy - was that at the root of this attack?
The idea that wee Davy could even get a shot at Barca ( other than a pre-season friendly) says it all really about Savages'
knowledge.
He should stick to shining his teeth and his hair!

I agree with bits of what he says, I was gutted by our defensive minded setup too. But the stuff about Utd is funny. The last cup tie Utd played, they struggled to get out of their own half v Sunderland.

I agree with some of the things he says too , but I have suspicions about his motives ( also I don't like the self - seeking little sh*t) and his popular misquoting of Pellegrini is symptomatic.
Over the last year or so the concept of us winning 5 trophies in 5 years , given the strength of our squad , is now being used as a fixed target where it was only described as a possibility by the club.
"The best team in the world " another fabrication from the popular press - never heard from anyone at the club , and now used as a stick to beat us with when we fail to live up to it.
"Best team in Manchester " much the same as the previous point.
"Weakest Barca team in years" this gem , of course , from we all know who - not from anyone at City , player or management, but commonly accepted by the reptiles of the press as another weapon to hit us with because "he " said it.
It's a drip drip of misquotes and insinuations.

What is it that unfunny comedienne's alter ego says; ''Am I bovvered?'' Let the media say what they want; it doesn't affect how I feel about my team.I won't wank myself silly when they're nice about us (''the best team on the planet'') and I won't go looking for a tall building to jump off when they're sniping at us. Onwards and upwards blues.
