Dinner or Tea?

The Romans had their main meal of the day at midday and that was called cena (/dinner), therefore i have dinnertime at work, not lunch, and tea time comes in the evening.

Go on then, is it pudding or afters? The north/ south manchester divide in this household has often led to ructions over that one. It's the latter by the way. After tea.

Supper if yer still hungry at 9pm (All times are approximate)

The pretentious fuckers from south Manchester who are Cheshire wannabes will talk of luncheon, afternoon high tea, dinner and supper, where the first is pronounced as 'lancheon' and where the last is pronounced as 'sapper'!
South Manchester say “breakfast dinner and tea”!

It's all very simple. Breakfast to break the fast of the night. Brunch. A mixture of breakfast and lunch. Lunch. Tea. Usually taken late afternoon. Dinner. The evening meal. As in "are we going out for dinner?" "only if you are paying." "Chippie it is." This meal has now turned into "tea".
 
If youre from up north and sound like a character from Billy Elliot or one from Kes its definitely tea. If youre sophisticated and from the south its dinner
