Diogo Jota & his brother Andre have died in a car crash

I skim read the notification on my phone assuming it said has signed a new deal and wasn’t until i did a double take I realised.

Truly awful, thoughts are with his family.
 
Horrific news. My heart goes out to his family. Losing both Diogo and his brother at once. His new wife and kids must be absolutely distraught.

As others have said, this puts things into perspective.

Football is ultimately just a game that brings us together to experience collective joy, whether playing or watching our club compete.

It is meant to make life better as we share the experience with others. It is meant to bring us closer to one another and bring more meaning to our relatively short time on this planet.

I hope this tragedy leads to some good in reminding everyone we have far more in common—in this case, our love for the beautiful game—than we often think. And that things like football rivalry mean very little in the grand scheme of things.

RIP Diogo, you will be missed by us all.
 
That is truly dreadful news. When you see the picture on the BBC Football website of his wedding day last month and the three young children....that's heartbreaking. RIP to both and condolences to their families.
 
In football we have rivals in other players and other clubs who we claim to hate, that's the tribal nature of what makes our sport so special (and at times not so special). But on days like this we come together as one, as football fans. There is a chant that often gets sang by fans of all clubs "he's one of our own". Well Diogo was indeed one of our own, one of the players from our game, football. Rest in peace young man.
 
I actually feel bad that two people have died and one is the headline and the other just a footnote. All because one was better at kicking a ball around than the other. Both are a tragic loss, awful for the family/families of both. RIP.
 
Always a very difficult player to face and 3 kids have lost a father RIP
