He'll get charges whether its a d/d/ or a s/o if there's not enough money in the account.

If you don't open a new bills account, see if you can get your bills coming out as soon as you can after payday.
 
get an approved overdraft set up as an emergency back up. Won't save the charge this time but will give you a buffer in future.
 
Pay some money in today. If it's cash it will clear by tomorrow but just to be on the safe side tell your bank what's happening. Bank's are great and will let you off any charges 9 times out of 10 as they are never greedy or anything. I love banks. Might get a t-shirt printed.

LTSB is credited as soon as you put it in. Quite right with the tell them asap - its a lot easier to sort out fees and charges before they are applied than it is afterwards.
 
To all those saying about an arranged overdraft, I already have one but it's maxed out, I don't get paid into my bank so I usually just pay money in when I need to pay DD's but totally forgot this month!

Gunna get my mother to wire some money to my account now, hope it isn't too late!

See your boss or HR - Payroll department and try and get them to pay you into the bank, much easier to take money out of an ATM than have to remember to deposit it, and as has been said before, try and get all your debits to come out as near payday as possible (though not the day before lol)
 
Just thought I'd wade in and give my own advice seeing as it's too late to do anything about it now

Any deposits paid in before 3pm are credited to your account on the same banking day. Unfortunately some banks are twats and you have to pay the money in by midnight the day before the DD is taken. It really does depend on your bank.

I paid the money in before noon today and no payments seem to have been taken yet so must have got it in in time,

not now they dont.....charge is £6 and the advisor last week told me
that all direct debits need to be sorted by 2.30pm.
i finish work at 3pm and was 45 mins late.............£6 charge

Natwest and rbs Is a 6 quid charge per dd or so that goes unpaid, if u put the funfs in before 2 30 pm the same day they will be paid as normal if you cnt afford them ring them on the day they are taken and ask them to recall the funds you will not be charged by the bank for an unpaid item then, you will have to sort out another method of payment with the company though, you also need 48 hrs workin notice to cancel a dd or so prior to it debiting or it will still debit
