I would advocate stronger local democracy. Germany has regional Parliaments for example and I think stronger devolved powers to the regions would be good move.
Definitely. Even in a country as small as Ireland there's always the problem that TDs from Dublin don't know or care about what's happening on the west coast and vice versa. With the population imbalance between Leinster and the rest of the country it leads to very capital-centric thinking while serious issues in Kerry, Galway, Donegal etc are completely ignored.I would advocate stronger local democracy. And Electronic Intifada isn't in any way biased of course! You've posted this on two threads now. It's simply not relevant to this one. Why not make an original contribution instead of posting stuff someone else has written. This gives you an interesting insight into the vote against Joan Ryan and how its not as the nay sayers would have it a concerted momentum effort to oust anti-Corbyn MP's but local members not happy with their MP's action in bringing false charges against a member of antisemitism and also that her actions brought the local party into disrepute. As this original meeting was reported on an Al-Jazerra documentary that would explain why the Iranian state TV had an interest in the conclusion of the no confidence vote.

I’m not trying to defend Ryan specifically. Just making the point that this is a generic thread about democracy at party and national level.Of course there is bias from such a source. In the same way there is bias from The Jewish Chronicle the former chief rabbi Sachs and so on. The point I am making is if you actually bother to look at the Al-Jazeera pieces you can see actual footage - not made up, on the spot filmed at the time, where Joan Ryan MP enters discussions with a party member and subsequently misquotes that party member and misrepresents what she said then used her own fabricated story to have the member subjected to an internal party investigation for statements she never actually made. If you read the article - the actual reason for the vote of no confidence is that she fabricated a case against a member which her CLP thought was not the actions of an MP that they would wish to represent them. There is truth in there if you set aside your bias and look for it.
