Not sure I can agree in total with you regarding Labours post war track record but certainly during the Blair years yes I can agree they did a good job and won a second term.Does it not feel like Labour are held to a higher standard Halfmist? Seems to me that Labour are under continual pressure to prove they're up to the job and won't wreck the country, when in reality Labour's track record is actually pretty good.
It's amazing how many people hark back to Jim Callaghan as proof that Labour will wreck the country, forgetting the 13 years of Blair and Brown which were far better than the last 12 years, and for much of the country, including Greater Manchester, far better than the Thatcher and Major years.
When Cameron was elected into 2010 I don't remember any clamour for big ideas from the Tories. The message was pretty much 'Labour has wrecked the economy (if you believed that) and we're ready to take over again'.
I think the reason why Labour are perceived to keep schtum about policies is because a) the press has a Tory bias and doesn't report them b) ideas that are reported are either ripped apart or stolen by the Tories.
However it was mainly due to centrist policies adopted by Labour during their modernisation era.
The majority on this site are on the left and they want to see the Party adopt left wing policies and are not interested in moderation.
My main point in all my posts is and will continue to be, that who ever is in power down at voter level they will notice very little change and those who think differently are going to be disappointed.
Yes, there may be some tweaking on ideological grounds to try and put a bit of distance from the opposition but that's as far as they will get in a term.
Labour are aware if they do anything too radical they will be booted out.
The best thing they can do come Election time is make sure the rent a mob brigade which seems to be formed at every Election and arrive at every Tory gathering with their placards are kept well out of the limelight.
