my wife says you are being unkind

haha. touche.

I don't think he was tactically naive. As you said we were by far the best side and never looked like conceding. You can't blame the manager's tactics for A Joe Hart blunder.

However, what is definitely not helping is the amount of injuries we have. I don't just mean losing key players like Kun and Silva. Yaya, Kolarov, Sagna, De Brunye, Fernandinho and Sterlimg have all played a lot of football. It's no wonder they are looking tired when we are forced to play them.

All the more reason to rest DeBruyne v Palace.

Pellegrini is not tactically naive, he's one of the smartest fuckers in football who could run rings round just about anyone tactically. He's also a stubborn old ****, who often chooses not to do that & sometimes gambles unnecessarily, which is where lesser coaches are able to turn him over.

Couldn't agree more. I was actually going to make a post along those lines before I saw this post. Pellers comes across to me as one who is trying to prove a needless point. He desperately wants his most favored style to succeed so that it will be said that he led the revolution of a new style, perhaps or probably he's just a strong-willed man. He is well aware of what fans, pundits, journos, etc think about his favored system but he's desperate to prove then wrong and defends his style with every opportunity. I recall him defending the 2-man striker approach post-watford where sterling scored after being moved from out-wide to the second striker role

Tbf at least tonight he's had the sense to rest DeBruyne & is tightening up the Yaya hole. I imagine it will still be more of a 4222 than the system the pundits imagine it will be though.

But I can't argue with tonight's selection.

Well done Manuel. Seems he is learning from past mistakes. Very much a tactical setup this. I can see us sitting back, soaking up the play and then hitting them on the break. With the speed of Sterling and Navas on the wing and the strength of Bony in the middle, think it's a good move personally.

Leaving De Bruyne on the bench is a very brave move. Pelegrini will either be a tactical genius or an idiot.

kudos to him for that and oh I forgot to add that I don't think 4222 is a bad system. Worked wonders in Malaga where they had 2 hardworking deep CMs unlike what we have now
