District 9...

A remake of this..

It's one of those films trying to talk about race issues but not doing it straight and by the book. Pleasantville did the same thing but used colour and black and white images/film instead of humans and aliens. It was also a good film compared to an average District 9.

I literally had to laugh out loud at this part! Yeah pleasentville is decent, nothing special, whereas district 9 is spectacular, in every way.

Agreed, I really enjoyed it too. If you were expecting Independence Day, then I think you're missing the point.

First of all, thank you Roque SantaBC for the find. It's interesting that Neil Blomkamp found the need to expand on his original idea and NOT make it better!!

Secondly, for those who think we're 'stupid', it was a poorly executed film for 'apartheid'. Yes, we know problems still exist, but this film did nothing address it in any way, shape or form. It was just used as a suitable backdrop. So what?

I tell you what was interesting. The fact that the word 'Prawn' was used liberally and not one of the Aliens took offence, was amusing! They never once offered a name for their own race, just to underline the 'offensive' Prawn name calling! A small error overlooked, yet, undermining the whole point of the film.

Like I said,it had bits and pieces worth holding on to, but that was nowhere NEAR enough to justify Peter Jackson lumping his name in with this awful film.

i think your wrong there bigga. if you want to make a political statement on the issues within this film, most people will want to make there own minds up about it. NOT to be preached to. i think they got thr balance right, it is told from both sides of the story and if it brings the issues to a wider audience, then the director has done what he set out to do!

Tell me, what did you learn about the aliens, in that case??

That they looked like prawns, apparently.

District 9 is many things, but it is far from mundane.

Its my opinion and that is a fact, others may disagree but it is no Alien or Predator or even an independance day. The story line is poor and it does not grip you at all. I thought it was that bad that I turned it off after an hour.

If you were comparing it to those films I don't think you got the point of the movie at all.

Try looking up the words apartheid and satire.

its not what we learn about them, its the fact that we are debating it, and perhaps thousands are doing the same thing.

im sure it will get politizised by someone, then the real debate will begin...

What would be the point in looking into the inner workings of the story if it is unwatchable in its raw form. It is boring, lacks any real grip of a storyline and doesn't have any really good performances form the actors in it. Case closed as far as I'm concerned.
