Diving...

Now I'm not going to generalise and say all Italians are cheats...but they do have a reputation for diving and bloody hell it was embarrassing to watch.

When I first started following footy decades ago, the Italians particularly among continental players had a reputation for practising the dark arts. Cynical, conmen and Juve's approach last night has a smattering of that. Feigning injury, blatant dives, and going to ground as soon as the penalty area appears on the horizon. Somethings never change.

There's a classic example when John Charles played for Juventus. He lambasted, I think, the Italian Sivori for playacting after a tackle. Not something the gentle giant would have truck with.

I didn't think they were any worse than United with Nani and JS Park. Two of the very worst divers globaly.

La Liga and the Portuguese league are far worse for diving thats what amazed me about the spanish ref tonight he didn't buy any of it

The ref was excellent. However, with the constant diving, he would have to get the odd decision wrong, which he did with the Krasic/Zabletta incident and a couple free kicks around the area, including the Del Piero hitting the bar one. So their diving still paid off for them, just not as much as they were hoping. I couldn't watch that every week, even though it has come into our game too.

I agree had a good game but still made some cock ups (that could have cost us) are we to niave as a team?

Feat the ref may not be as brave over there. I hope so, but I fear at least one Juve penalty over there.

It was very disappointing though to see such a historically great European team as Juventus behaving like a bunch of cheats. I expected more of them. My mistake.

People need to be sighted for diving. I've heard pundits, fans and players say it's part of the game now. What a load of shit! Once a player clearly dives, he should be dealt with straight away. Take last night for instance, Krasic, took a tumble in the box and was cautioned straight away. The referees need to take action and stamp this out of the game. Once players are cautioned for diving it will slowly be eradicated.

I watched the game at home last night, the Krasic incident looked like it could of easily been a penno. They showed it a couple of times at half time. I think we got away with one last night. Mind you, the replays are in slow motion so most challenges look like fouls.

Ah now, yes European football is pretty bad when it comes to diving, and just plain cheating, but England is as bad, be it English players or foreign lads, everybody cheats.

One of the most patheic things I've seen on a pitch, and he is one of the main culprits for it.

I'd love to know though why is it in any other sport, rugby, American football, GAA,it is ridiculed, players are embarased by it and it's simply not accceptable, while in football, it's seen as part of the game and it's barely acknowledged. When in reality, it's pure cheating.

They need to bring in a law that players can be cited, like in rugby, about things that they did during a game, and punished for them, which includes cheating.
