Gotze is just about ungettable at this point, Dortmund are flying, he is loyal and has no desire to leave, and even if he did would be hugely expensive which probably goes against our new transfer policy. I would say there is a lad not too far behind him who could turn out as good and who looks the business in Schalke's first team at the age of just 19: Julian Draxler. He'd be much more gettable and has already been capped by Germany 3 times, which considering their talent in midfield says a lot about him.
You are very right with Götze..it's impossible to get him, but i strongly have to disagree about the Draxler part. No doubt, he is a great young prospect, but a lot of people on the internet clearly overrating him, as he is nowhere near the class of Götze.

Götze is a very complete midfielder with extraordinary technique and dribbling skills combined with great vision and maturity. Draxler is a completely different player as his skills on the ball and dribbling are about average. He is a very direct player who likes to cut in and has a great shot. He is just very raw with much potential, but also has his weaknesses. I would compare him more to Schürrle than to Götze. Max Meyer (17) from their youth could be the next big thing coming from Germany, as I see plenty of similarities between them, so keep an eye on this lad i hope he ll get his 1st appearance soon.

Then you have to consider that he is a Schalke youth product with contract until 2016!!! and they never let go identification figures/role models easily. Neuer needed to wait for years until his contract was just running for one further year..Schalke can be very stubborn when it comes to this and they are on their way to establish themselves int. as a Top-Club, so I really cannot see them selling him for a reasonable price, so it would need a hefty sum to lure him away and Draxler wouldnt be actually worth that kind of money. In addition, I very much doubt that Draxler would be interested in leaving the club, let alone Germany in such young years.

Excellent in-depth post.

Dortmund and Germany are truly blessed having a player like Gotze.

Indeed he is a wonderful talent and it's about time that Löw finally realises, that Özil doesnt deserve to be a starter, but he was always a holy cow..IMO both, Kroos and Götze are better than him.

What Germany lack is more stability in CM, but what does Löw? He plays Schweinsteiger as the defensive part and Khedira is running all over the place like a headless chicken. Add Özil to this midfield and you have a lot of creativity, but also no balance and stability. Kroos is showing how a CM should be these days, as he has strongly improved his defensive skills AND is structuring the game and striking wonderful goals and assisting on a regular basis now. Götze is also offering more to the game, but he is more a final 1/3 player like Ozil than a middle of the pitch player like Kroos. Götze more offensive and Kroos more defensive. The competition on that position is just insane and there are more names to come through the ranks in the upcoming future like Can, Goretzka, Rode, Holtby, Leitner, Bittencourt, Meyer...

Arda Turan? Great winger at Atletico, would give us some width as well.

He is very good player, but not better or different than what City currently has.

Well we can fantasise about various players all day long but the truth is we definately need something from somebody. Riding our luck in games, running out of ideas and lacking inspiration. My guess is that we won't get anybody in until the summer. Though with Yaya going to ACON it may spur a different formation with surprising results!!
