Do you remember when footy boots were black?

I've always thought that the brightly coloured boots came about from the brands so that they would stand out on the pitch and be easily recognisable rather then it being a fashion thing.

Short sleeves, black boots and no gloves = a real man!

This is true. Especially in Sunday League. If you do not adhere to this, you will quite rightly be targetted and fouled, usually by me.

Yep you deserve kicking out of touch if you wear something made out of a camel or kangaroos ball sack coloured pink or a day glow green.

I saw a rugby documentary recently where they were analyzing the art of tackling, among other things. It showed that wearing bright-coloured/luminous boots were advantageous to the attacker by drawing the eyeline of the defender away from the attacker's waist. Pretty much the whole of the All-Black's backline wear them. I was thinking the same idea could be applied to football, especially as the balls are often bright-coloured, thus making stepovers for example possibly even more confusing. Just a thought...

I remember that when most boots were black a certain World Cup Winner who had the medal to prove it used to wear white boots.

If you had them on Sunday morning in the late 70s early 80s you might as well have painted a target on yer shins.

Aguero collects over 1 million a season for wearing those nice green slippers.

Slippers being the perfect word for them, would be nice if he could stay on his feet once in while whilst trying to change direction.

Personally I don't think it matters what colour boots you wear as long as they feel right on your feet. Obviously the different colours every few month are so the people watching know which brand you are looking at to go out and buy which your favourite player wears (id say more aimed at kids). Also different coloured/new boots every few month are obviously part of the players contract with the brand.

I don't think it makes you any less of a man/player wearing bright coloured boots...for example Zabaleta
