Am I the only one to find it sad / strange that we're letting such top notch quality players leave the club? Maybe I'm trying to cling on the past desperately looking for a connection with any of our current players but I'm struggling to do so.

Shay Given - Excellent piece of business at £6,000,000 for one of the premierships most consistent shot stoppers. He has his weaknesses but he has been a very reliable goalkeeper for us and one of the better ones easily, yet we're apparently allowing him to join Arsenal, one of our top four rivals? Are you crackers? He's quality and yet the only reason he is being allowed to is because we've got the current England international goalkeeper for the next 10 + years in Joe Hart who, if his display against Spurs is anything to go by, has a great future ahead of him and is the right decision.

Stevie Ireland - :( Don't go! *grasps at his ankles* I really don't want him to go and yet I know deep down that it's the right decision for all parties. Villa are a fantastic club in my books and I have a lot of time for their fan base, they don't come accross as bitter sods like others (exclude Barry treatment as I'm talking on the whole) but I hope he goes from strength to strength because he's a cracking player with immense vision. We expected him to be City's Paul Scholes but it wasn't to be :( Superman found his kryptonite at City in Mancini I reckon :(

Bellamy - See Bellamy thread for comments.

I just think it's mental and I know we're getting better players in Hart being here, Milner coming in (more well rounded) and Balotelli but does anyone feel the same or is it just me being all sentimental?

Players come and go, that's football. We've lost good players before and will do again, only difference is nowadays we have the resources to properly replace them.

Silva > Ireland
Balotelli > Caciedo, Bellamy, Bojinov, Benjani
Y.Toure > Incredible Midfielder
Milner > Petrov, Ireland
Kolarov & Boetang > Sylvinho, Garrido, Onouha

Why are you sad about Shay? We haven't sold him and if we do we have a perfect replacement in Joe hart, who is younger, English and just as able. No other club in England has two world class keepers.

I know Phil but to me it's not the same. There's nobody at the club, Shaun and Micah, apart who genuinely know what City means to the fans. Even Nedum has gone.

What do the new "superstars" know of our history and our support? Nothing, because they've not experienced the fans and playing for our fans is an experience like no other. Be amazing and they'll adore you, double cross them or play shit and you'll wish you never chose a career in football because of us.

(Shrugs) It just feels like it's not our City anymore. It's hard to find a connection with any of the current players who genuinely give a shit about the club.

A bit sick about Bellars and Stevie but Mancio is the boss and what he says goes,it will probably be better in the long run because players know they will be moved on if they dont tow the line.Harsh now hopefully well worth it in the future.

Here here, as bellers said he helped move the club up to the next level and now the new players should be able once again move us up, forget the sentimentality and Bring it On ;)

They can't play if they're not in the 25 though can they, and therefore they will be unhappy

Nothing wrong with having a sentimental connection with the players. But the club is bigger than the players who always come and go. We will have some new heroes.

When Given first came, remember he pushed Hart out to Birmingham.

You can only have so many players before it becomes unmanageable

The imminent departures of Ireland and Caicedo in addition to Bellamy are good for the remaining squad and for the players involved.

SWP went to chelsea, that how much he REALLY loved the club.

i dont think its fair of you to say this, look at kompany,de jong, zab,A J,tevez, those players show more passion than some homegrowns IMO.

I understand the need for improvement and progression but I know exactly what you mean mate! :-(

I find it sad that Ireland is going as he was nurtured at the club. The same goes for Ned and to a lesser extent Garrido and Given, but if we want to be the best we need to have players, players that can give us just that 2% extra. C'est la vie...
