Does anyone get on with their neighbours?

Never spoke to either of mine and that's just the way I like it. The amount of people I've known over the years move into a new house, become best friends with a neighbour and then have a major fall out. Then it's awkward everyday, keep yourselves to yourselves people!!

On my small street of 15 houses i know almost everybody. Whenever a house comes up for sale one of my old friends buys it.
We have parties, keep the street clean, clear the paths in snow and watch out for dodgy fuckers hanging around. Neighbours make meals for the older residents and nobody has to put their dogs in the kennels for holidays.

Mate that's sounds great makes me think of how's mum and dad describe there old streets. My estate growing up wasn't like that and if it was my view would probably be a lot different. My own experience is for every street like yours there's 1,000 not. I like where I live nobody bothers me and it suits work and school for the kids. I'm not messing that up for a potential friend I may make. I already have great mates that I meet in primary school and wouldn't change for the world. Sorry for my cynical view for the world but the world made me this way mate.

This was the problem when they knocked down streets, and replaced them with estate's which were like mazes and killed community spirit. I can still think back to when I was a small kid and remember the names of each family who lived in each house.

Stoner I once rented a room off a good mate who lived at the bottom of a cul-de-sac. First thing he said was most of the residents were sound as fuck and easy to get along with. Everyone did really know one another and were tip-top. An old bloke who used to spot me would shout "Oi mcmanus you going shop lad?"
"yep"
"Can you get us a few things?"
"yep"
He had a bloody list for me. But absolutely no probs at all as he was such a top fella. Five minutes extra for me rather then a half hour hassle for him.

As for the parking it was always tight but a quick knock on a door and car moved. Some used to chuck me their keys.

Wouldn't it be nice if it was like that in more places? Used to be where I was brought up - street parties, open houses where neighbours just knocked and came in, NYE parties in three houses and people just went back and forward.

The old guy next to me used to be ok but he's turned in a proper lazy bastard recently, Hasn't taken his milk in for almost two weeks.

Suppose I can't really complain about my neighbours. Next door to us is a family of blues who give me a lift to the game and back when I can get a ticket for the match. The dad is security conscious and has CCTV set up all around the house so that's a bit of reassurance. Also they paid for half of the fencing we had done last summer so thats great. Other neighbours have got an old rescue dog, which is quite vicious and has attacked our dog numerous times who is feeble as you like. Not spoken to them in a while but they seemed really apologetic about it and there's no lasting damage so it's water under the bridge.

Never had to complain about noise or anything like that which I'm thankful for. Couldn't abide having noisy neighbours would drive me to insanity...
