The amount of people I've known over the years move into a new house, become best friends with a neighbour and then have a major fall out. Then it's awkward everyday, keep yourselves to yourselves people!!
On my small street of 15 houses i know almost everybody. Whenever a house comes up for sale one of my old friends buys it.
We have parties, keep the street clean, clear the paths in snow and watch out for dodgy fuckers hanging around. Neighbours make meals for the older residents and nobody has to put their dogs in the kennels for holidays.
Mate that's sounds great makes me think of how's mum and dad describe there old streets. My estate growing up wasn't like that and if it was my view would probably be a lot different. My own experience is for every street like yours there's 1,000 not. I like where I live nobody bothers me and it suits work and school for the kids. I'm not messing that up for a potential friend I may make. I already have great mates that I meet in primary school and wouldn't change for the world. Sorry for my cynical view for the world but the world made me this way mate.
This was the problem when they knocked down streets, and replaced them with estate's which were like mazes and killed community spirit. I can still think back to when I was a small kid and remember the names of each family who lived in each house.
