Does Anyone Know Where This Took Place In Madrid? :-)

Does anyone remember what that bar was called?
i think its a 'chain bar' and there's a few in Madrid - we went in one similar.

There was a couple of irish bars about 100yards from SOL metro - dubliners and o'connells -they had cheap drinks and were full of city last time we were there.

i'm actually on this video a bit worse for wear and i remembered roughly where it was so i've just had a quick look on google maps and found it. It is called 100 Montaditos and is on the corner of Calle Postas and Calle San Cristobal. If you look at the top right hand side of Plaza Mayor on the map, you will see Calle De La Salle. Head down there and hang a left onto Calle Postas. The bar is on the left at the next crossroad. The atmosphere was fantastic in there and from memory the beer was also quite a bit cheaper than the Plaza bars.

The chain is called 100 Montadito which means 100 little sandwiches. There's plenty across Madrid, beers are 1.50 euro for a jarra. Bonus as well is that the whole menu is 1 euro on Wednesday's if you need to inevitably soak up the booze!

El Tigre, just off grand via is a Madrid institution. About €2.50 a beer and a huge plate of free tapa each time you go back. Real spit and sawdust type place.

Madrid in general is pretty cheap for booze & food.

I'm from Madrid. Traditionally, visiting football fans go to either Plaza Mayor and stay outside making noise or go to those two Irish pubs one next to the other called Dubliners and O'Connell's. The area sucks, but they always go there. Mind your wallets most of all or you'll be contributing to the Romanian gipsies economy. Bring a light raincoat, in April it rains a lot. It's mostly sunny and warm already but in spring it can change fast.

Can you recommend any decent bars near there or the sol area to watch bayern vs atletico on Tuesday mate?

Where would you recommend for drinking and decent tapas? Not really into the mass meet ups like Plaza Mayor and definitely don't intend to go in any Irish bars!! We are staying in La Latina area which seems to have a lot of bars etc, are there any you would particularly recommend. Thanks In advance.

I honestly don't know. I am old and haven't been going out for ages, and I've never hanged out in La Latina, I don't go to the center by night I usually go to places where no tourists go, but as you mention, Latina is full of bars and night life. I'd say check Plaza de Santa Ana too.

Ask in this forum. It's for madridistas but it's in English and 99% are not Spanish and they always ask and speak these same questions when they come to Madrid and will surely know better.

By the way, I like Irish pubs or English pubs much more than Spanish bars, usually dirty, uncomfortable, with fluorescent lights, people stand up all the time... Specially for watching football the Irish pubs are usually better here. Or for my taste. For the Bayern vs Atleti in case of doubt go to Dubliners and O'Connells, those are big enough and will probably find many citizens and a great fun.

The one where I go to sometimes is the James Joyce in Alcalá 59, it's more classy than the others and it's still in the very center. But not a big difference anyway. It has many screens and probably will be less crowded. Still, go early to find a seat wherever you go. One hour in advance might not be enough to find a free table. It's semifinals and Madrid is the 3rd largest city in Europe only after Paris and London, meaning lots of people in every big event. Which is a pain in the ass...

Sorry that I'm not of much help, ask the younger guys in that forum or a Spanish Real Madrid forum. You'll be welcome and appreciated. We only dislike Barcelona, the rest are friends, including Atleti. (But of course be careful, specially if you win and meet some angry bastards later).

Like this poster I would recommend plaza Santa Ana, about 10 mins from sol and plaza mayor. Great bars and lovely place to chill with more bars around the surrounding side streets. Enjoy!!!

I'd definetely recommend to go to the roof of Hotel Reina Victoria in Plaza de Santa Ana. It's really cool and has great views. I don't know if it can be too crowded though. I've been there a few times and it was fine but that was long ago.

Malasaña and Fuencaral are pretty good places for drinks/food. Kinda like the northern quarter and you can jump on the metro at tribunal to get to the ground. If your Spanish is good enough and you're not wearing colours you can just buy beers on the street outside the ground and mingle with the madridistas
