Does anyone over 45 on here still play 5 a side?

Only in my head.
I miss playing so much but both my knees are goosed, having said that I still think I could still go on the field and think I'll boss it.

Unfortunately it will never happen, I get my fix watching my lad play now.

Played footy for the first time in a year or two yesterday and was shocked how shit I was. Despite loosing weight with the Covid my feet could not do what my brain was telling it and then I pulled my hamstring after about twenty minutes. Has anyone managed to still be able to play post 45?
Im 52 i still play eleven aside in cheshire veterans league over 45s.

Play 5 a side every week in a league against 20 year olds and love it and also just started playing vets football as well. I’m 46 and for me it just helps keeping me fit but also love the buzz of being in and around a football team.

If you get a half decent level of fitness through running, gym etc, do some real hard cardio sessions then that’s half the battle when you get on the pitch. If you were a decent player when you were younger it will quickly come back.
Who you play for mate im oakwood vets warrington cheshire vets league??

Leyland in lancashire vets league. Played Horwich today and they were excellent, gave us the absolute run around but still enjoyed it. 80 minutes in this heat today was tough. It’s over 35’s our league and real mix level of teams. You come up against teams like we did today who are all mid 30’s and still playing football at a decent level (west lancs / NW counties) and then teams who are just mainly older mates who used to play like our team.

Absolutely. I played eleven a side in lancashire leagues till I was about 33/34 and didn’t kick a ball again until about 6 months ago. Back into it now, relatively fit and loving it. Wife not quite as enthusiastic about it :)

Yes, I'm 46 and I still play at a decent standard, mainly with people in their 20's and early 30's.

I stopped drinking alcohol & switched to a whole food plant based diet about 5 years ago and it's made a difference to my fitness & recovery levels. I used to get problems with my shins after playing football but I don't get any of that anymore. I started doing yoga about 5 or 6 years ago also and that helps too.
Thanks Giggsy. I claim the £5.
Good luck in your trial - you'll need it!
:-)

Giggs will be fine
