does he ever give the ball away ????.....

As I said on another thread some time back, he almost never gets caught in possession. And that's not true of anyone else you can think of in the team (although Ferny doesn't often get caught out). Time and time again, he receives the ball, and manages to get it to a blue shirt, however briefly or long he holds it for. That's invaluable, and that's why I fear that some very big fish like Barca is going to come after him for ridiculous money, sooner or later. I do fear it. Because he cannot be replaced by anyone that I can think of in world football, given his still relatively young age.
Actually, although I don't have the stats to back it up I'd say Samir Nasri is better at not losing possession.
And the best thing is they both play for us.

Nasri, Yaya and Garcia all have better pass completion rates, Dinho is slightly worse than Merlin. However Merlin takes most risks, so IMO he's the most talented at holding onto the ball (if that makes any sense)

The reason Silva gives away more balls is because most of the time players around him are no on same wave length.
His thinking process is quicker then the average brain.

Silva attempts and makes more key passes than Nasri, but Nasri attempts and makes more dribbles, so the idea that Silva takes more risk and therefore is more talented at holding onto the ball doesn't make sense. They both take risks, just in a different way.

Dead on. Silva absolutely needs someone on his wavelength. That's why he is so much better with Nasri and Aguero in the team and why he looks so amazing for Spain.

He gives it away almost every time he takes a corner usually to the their first man.
I remember 2 great corners he took back in 2011/2012 :)

I've been a match goer for 32 years and have yet to see a decent corner
You obviously don't remember Joey "raise your hand" Barton's corners

Got to agree and that is the reason in the "best since Bell" thread I would say a resounding no because whilst he is an absolutely class player - sublime touch, incredible vision and can pick a pass from nowhere - if no one else in the team is on that wavelength or making those runs he cannot win the game on his own because he doesn't score enough. It would be brilliant if he added that to his game so that defenders had to decide whether to follow the runner or tackle him - if I was defending against him I would let him have the space to take a shot on because chances are he wont score. Fortunately with Sergio and Nasri he can play them in and they can do that job for him. He is a proper purists player - lovely to watch. That turn to play Negredo in against Barca was effortless and one of the best things I have ever seen a player for City do.

I rate Samir very, very highly, just below Silva as midfielder. I don't think that Samir quite has Silva's astonishing vision, that is, the ability to know where a player's going to be a split second before he even knows it himself. That said, Samir has other things in the locker. He will always score more goals, because he seems to believe that he can, whereas Silva seems to want to give the ball back even when he's palpably in a better position than anyone else (see the Stoke game in the last ten minutes, where he was played on by a brilliant little flick by Yaya and should have just gone for it). But I really doubt that Samir receives the ball as much as David Silva does, and I'd be very, very surprised if the stats bore that out (and I'd like to know where they came from). Everybody's always looking for Spanish Dave, whether it's Yaya, Vinny or whoever. He is the pivot the team turns round. By the way, yes, his corner taking is dogshite, never been able to get my head round that. Somebody on here had an idea worth trying: Kolarov to take corners. Only problem. If it breaks down, and the opposition break out, Kolarov would be dead in the water as far as tracking back is concerned.

-- Thu Mar 06, 2014 5:39 pm --

Just an afterthought. Silva + Kun is a killer combination because the latter moves as fast as the former thinks.

Silva and Nasri, for their size it's amazing how they can hold off much bigger defenders and protect the ball.
