It's worrying how many people cannot grasp the basics of being economically and socially left or right. Everyone just puts it under one big category and it doesn't really describe anyone accurately.

You're right. For example, from an economic point of view Nazi Germany was very left wing, and the National Socialist terminology was fairly accurate.
