Donald Trump

I’d bet policy is coming that she does not like. She’s no yes-woman.

Possibly.

She's someone who seems liked by all quarters in the Republicans and might fancy herself for 2024 with Trump's endorsement. She could unite the party well.

But obviously if she's tarred with a bad policy brush she can't. It feels like she's super smart; spends long enough with Trump to get his base onside but not long enough to be a Trumper through and through in the eyes of the swing voters. And she did good work in the UN. She even has a positive favourability rating with Democrat voters, over 50%.

Or, well, Graham gets the AG and she runs for his seat ;)

She fawned over Jared and Ivanka before leaving and now it's looking like Ivanka may be our new ambassador to the UN.

You know, because being rich and running sweat shops in China are a unique skill set that you need for that job.

I think she'd be pretty appealing across parties. I thought she bucked for the UN job because she needs international policy experience to help cement her eventual run for the WH, plus it gets her outside the maelstrom which she had to know was a possibility (probability if she's even moderately smart) after the election. I doubt she'd challenge in 2020 as she already stated because she has to prove herself a loyalist, but she has crafted a well-developed independent streak too. She's stayed quite a bit above the fray on a relative basis. Job done then.

Next I think she works on a book or books and builds her brand and popularity nationally. If Trump becomes a GOP liability or, as I think is more feasible than maybe you do, decides not to run, she could step in as either a candidate or as a running mate to Pence, assuming he's the anointed one. Or if Trump is re-elected (I think that is quite unlikely; the recession will be here by then) then 2024 seems a thought but that's six years from now and she can't sideline herself for THAT long. Her pro-life stance is a hot button though -- that's a go/no-go issue for an awful lot of people in the US.

She is getting out now, as she can disavow involvement in the nastiness of Kavanaugh (hoax?!), can walk away from the job with Trump (and Republicans) touting foreign policy success, and get out of the job before the seemingly inevitable (where have I read that before?!) November election debacle.

As you rightly state, she is now seen as a Stateswoman, and gets to write her own next chapter, as she readies herself for what comes next politically.

She is, by far, the most appealing Republican candidate for the future...of either sex.

Governors are very electable, because they have...governed! In addition, she is not known as being extreme, and is very appealing to women.

How ironic would it be if Republicans succeeded in electing the first female President, who has Native American roots?!

I know she has Indian roots, as in India (Sikh if I recall right). Does she have native American roots too?

It could be that there are worse storms approaching and she wants to steer clear. She's proven reasonably deft on balance. I wondered at one point if maybe Trump parked her at the UN to blunt her as a threat in 2020.

BBC presenter last night posited the 2024 theory - she said she isn't standing against Trump for 2020, and gets a clear run at it. They listed 9 UN ambassadors (I think) who have gone onto a political career, and Haley has already been a state governor.

Trump was quoted as saying Ivanka would be great as UN ambassador (presumably in answer to a question?) but he didn't want it to look like nepotism (er, and Jarvanka now is what?). Maybe he'll ask Pence/Pompeo propose someone!
