What a superb post Chicago Blue.
Have you ever considered running for President?
I sniff a trap, but I have a good answer that negates even the hyperbolic notion of ever being suitable...I'm not a natural born citizen of the United States.

Still like him.
And that is your right. It does nothing to refute what I have said.

There are happy drunks that I like, especially when they have a few beers in them. I prefer such "great guys" not to be my President. Just a personal preference from someone who has to live under his reign.

Time to watch John Hurt's turn in "V for Vendetta" again for a refresher of how this might end.

Not a trap at all C.B.
I didn't know that you weren't a native American.
Your posts are a joy to read.
You have presented your position far more eloquently and concisely than I ever could.
I am in total agreement with your opinions.
Keep up the good work blue!

I'm not sure I ever said it was "wrong." If I did, show me and as will apologize for my error.

The issue is that the Electoral College puts a thumb on the scale. When a Democrat wins, the thumb on the scale is overcome. When a Republican wins, with a distinct MINORITY of the voting population, then the thumb on the scale has helped cause it to happen.

I know...Logical thought is hard when it doesn't fit you views, but it is not "whining," but pointing out issues that, in this instance, highlighted a problem with the process.

As to the result, I'm sorry you don't want any further "tripe about popular votes, electoral colleges, etc, etc," but I could have sworn this particular thread was the one thread on this Forum that was uniquely suited to that discussion. Did you stumble here thinking it was the "what should pissheads talk about tonight...but I think can't be about Trump and the election" thread?

In addition, the notion that it is "tedious, pointless and futile" suggests a level of critical thought Of the order of an early thirties Chamberlain, and shows a complete lack of knowledge of the manner in which the elections are done, why, and how it can change. But then, from your perch, this is all noise. For some of us, it is the life around us.

Carry on...
Wonderful. So a discussion about Trump should include all the nuances of the voting system, a system that nobody
appeared to have a problem with before. Why is this thread uniquely suited to it? I get the popular vote point, your argument
would be eagerly grabbed by UKIP over here, and, if applied by a UK mandate, would mean they would have many more seats
than one and the SNP would not exist. We haven't got that system, and although I concede your knowledge of US politics to be
superior to mine, I would be willing to wager that the system in place there will not be changed anytime soon.
Despite advancing years, I don't 'Stumble,' so if everyone is happy to debate this, which I doubt, I'll bow
out, otherwise, Trumps actions, policies, and other fun filled announcements should be the priority imo.

Cheers, mate!

Born in Torquay while my day was playing football for them, but grew up in Withington, Radcliffe and Mossley. Cavendish Rd Primary, then Radcliffe Primary, Stand Grammar School for boys, Ashton-u-Lyne Grammar, then Ashton Sixth Form College, came to States on a Uni Scholarship. Met my wife in Uni, got married, kids, stayed and fortunate enough to have had a modicum of success.

Just a local Manchester lad who listened in school and managed to turn it into something decent for his family. Nothing special at all, but the kind thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Everyone has been moaning about the voting system for years. Including Trump. Nobody has suddenly decided they don't like it now because it's lead to a result they don't like. And for the record, the UK's system is equally shit.

I grew up in 'bottom ' Mossley, Bury St. to be precise.
Glad to hear that you are doing well.

What are you writing, your obituary?

Not "should," but I didn't realize it was excluded from the discussion, especially considering it is a hot button issue since his coronation.

Why is this thread uniquely suited to it?

Isn't it self-evident in the title of the thread...or do you want there to be multiple threads about Trump and the election?

I get the popular vote point, your argument would be eagerly grabbed by UKIP over here, and, if applied by a UK mandate, would mean they would have many more seats than one and the SNP would not exist. I would agree that a change would be virtually impossible in a United States where the Republicans control all three branches of government, but it is a discussion that has come to the fore because of the rather significant difference between the national democratic vote and the government we have going forward. In short, we have a system now where the popular vote is COMPLETELY OPPOSITE to the people representing their interests in all three branches of government. This very, very rarely happens, and when it does, that party often seeks to "make hay while the suns shines," which is especially disturbing given the Head Haymaker.

I would agree that simply complaining that Trump is somehow illegitimate BECAUSE he didn't win the popular vote is wrong. He won under the rules of the game. The issue is whether the game, which was invented when there were 13 states and they didn't want big cities like Philadelphia, New York and Washington to determine the outcome, while ignoring the desires of the people in the rural areas of the colonies. Ironically, that desire has succeeded to the point of the pendulum having swung TO the rural voters.

There is certainly no way the Founding Fathers could have foreseen such a racially and ethnically mixed country of 330M people that stretched from the Atlantic to the Pacific and from the Gulf of California to the frozen waters of the Bering Straits, yet here we are...still using their system, because conservatives LIKE the white male-centric writings of the aristocratic white slave owners who wrote it, but that STILL suit their purposes.

Despite advancing years, I don't 'Stumble,' so if everyone is happy to debate this, which I doubt, I'll bow out, otherwise, Trumps actions, policies, and other fun filled announcements should be the priority imo.

Going forward, I agree, and from this point forth, I'm happy to discuss those, as I have in recent posts above. Are you finding any solace in the actions undertaken by fiat to this point?

Top Mossley, Mountain Street Conservative Club, then Top House on Micklehurst Rd.

Not sure if I would consider myself a Mossley lad. Lived there from age 12 to 18.

All I can say is that if May is as flexible in bed as she is in politics, then her husband is a very lucky man.

I really can't understand how the Queen agreed to a state visit. Lost all respect for her over that.

I agree, it really makes you wonder what goes on doesn't it.

I can't remember a president getting elected to such uproar and derision, you would think that we had a clear plan for how we were going to play this out over the first couple of months until we really understood the lie of the land but if this is the best that we could come up with them I am worried about the future.

Come on PB, let the dust settle a tad, despite his current actions I´m sure he will not be able to act dictatorially for much longer.
I think he will soon find out what he can and what he cannot do and perhaps will then get frustrated with being unable to continue his megalomaniac tendencies and realise that diplomacy is not his strong suit.
Backlash from the US civil service has yet to kick in despite his attempts to place his own people at the top of certain departments.

There again maybe if he upsets enough people in powerful positions he may not be the complete master of his own destiny.

there have been some 'great' posts on this thread..this one is just comic genius...nice one
It would be comic genius if he didn't actually mean every word. The level of delusion in his posts are probably unmatched by anyone else on the forum, and Blue Phil is also on here.

I don't remember the outrage when Obama first set the visa restrictions for the listed countries. I must have been asleep that week. It's surprising how much anger trump has caused by simply making the restriction more effective.
I'm clearly missing something.?
