It leads to the illusion of togetherness, when it is far from it.
I assure you, Democrats have a far better chance of unifying themselves behind whomever they choose as the nominee this time around. The unifying factor is quite obvious.
It's still the primaries; we expect differences and jockeying for position.
But anyone who whines after they're over and doesn't get lockstep behind the nominee should be discreetly packaged up and shipped off to France.
