Looking at the released Transcripts. It looks like his plan is to argue Ukraine interfered in the US elections not Russia.

Luckily the people being interviewed have had it placed on record that's bullshit.
 
What strange times we live in that when the sitting President of the United States is fined $2M for taking funds from his Trump Foundation charity to bribe people with, it's not the worst thing he's ever done.

Sort of yeah. He’s been desperate to suggest doubt that Russia was responsible and the alt right conspiracy theory is that Ukraine did it for Hilary as they’d hacked the DNC server to blackmail her as president.

Now everyone, especially Trump, Baby Trump Jr, Stone and Bannon knows that theory is horseshit and has been debunked, but by getting Ukraine to say they were looking into it, then it offers enough grey area.
