I re-read part of The Final Days over the weekend, Woodward and Bernstein’s follow-up to All The President’s Men. It’s of course about the last several months of Nixon’s presidency, with an emphasis on a near hour-by-hour recounting of the last few weeks. It makes me physically ill to see staunch Republicans who put their nation before their party and the tide of average Americans who would not buy a lie when confronted with evidence and even Nixon himself succumbing for the good of the nation (even though denying everything) and then realizing this would never, ever, ever, ever happen in this country now.

This is not new; this was going on in Kennedy's time. Watch The Vietnam War - Ken Burns, I think it is on Netflix. A real eye opener on how successive Presidents lied to their people. Still going on - Iraq anyone?

Well, different issue as I see it. The enablers in that case were restricted to relatively few, very high level government personnel (cabinet members, the Presidents). I doubt Congress would have been complicit had the Pentagon Papers been released years earlier, e.g. In this case Republicans across the board in Congress enable Trump. Many coattailed into office because of him; nearly all are afraid for their jobs (maybe even their lives) if they cross him as they'll be primaried as RINOs by the cult. So they sit in silence, or they knuckle under, or they fawn over him.

Edit -- yeah, SWP is right -- I think you misread what I was saying. No doubt many Presidents lie -- but Congress ignoring those lies despite knowing about them is tacitly endorsing the actions based on them to protect their own power.

So... Cuomo would be getting some of this trillion dollar bailout?

Is it up to him whether big bizz get all of their money or is that a direct dealing with #45?

Just wondering that if it goes through Cuomo, could he not make sure that 50% payment bonus is taken out of payment to bizz or ask them to top that up out of their profits?

He doesn't have to put this back on the taxpayer. He's looking for excuses with the healthcare angle as he was cutting that anyway!
