Donald Trump

He can't bully or lie or hope or wish or bullshit or scream or ignore Coronavirus away. He can only blame others for it and deflect everyone's anger and fear away from himself. The problem is people need REAL answers about it because it IS real. And those with real answers can't be 100% beholden to Trump -- they have to be 100% beholden to data, evidence and science.

He can say "I alone am the truth" and "I alone have the answers" about almost everything but he can't say "I alone can solve this problem" because people keep dying.

How's he going to get out of this? He needs a miracle cure or a declining curve with no resurgence. Odds of that don't seem high at the moment.

What about Florida which has re opened and not recording any deaths?

He's going to go full on Iraq WMD's and pretend there is evidence that China did it on purpose isn't he? Literally anything to avoid criticism for just letting it ravage the country he is supposed to be in charge of protecting. But China aren't Iraq and won't/can't be bullied, if he really insists on doing it it could get very ugly.

Yeah, we'll see how that goes. Data seems to indicate Floridians self-isolated before the governor said to do so, and scientists appear puzzled, according to this: https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/03/politics/florida-reopening-desantis/index.html. So maybe he deserves credit for the way he's handled this, or maybe not -- the tale of the tape will be told in the end, but I'm glad for Floridians so far.

I know in my county we have had 13 deaths out of 300K or so people, a few hundred cases, and currently ZERO people in hospital with the disease currently, and our county locked down tight at least a week earlier than almost anywhere else in the nation (part of six SF bay counties that did). I explained some of the draconian measures in the COVID thread. So maybe there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Either way -- these were state and local leadership efforts, not Trump.

I agree. Anyhow, I think the intent of the 25th would be a debilitating stroke of some sort where the President himself couldn't contest removal physically or mentally and no one disagreed that he was unable to carry out the duties of the office. Using the 25th now would be tantamount to a coup and that's not a precedent this nation should set.
I simply cannot agree with this. I am certain that if you’d asked the legislators who had framed the 25th amendment, would they anticipate it providing for situations where the President was demonstrably (or had become) clinically insane, then their overwhelming answer would have been an unequivocal ‘yes’.

On the basis that he is clinically insane (which I profoundly believe he is) then this is entirely a precedent that your nation should set.

Too many people in the House and Senate have invested fully in Trump, and there is no way they are gong to cash out now. The GOP are all in on Trump and they will fight the 25th until the bitter end.

That may very well be the case, but that isn’t the point I was advancing. I was responding to a particular point about the 25th.

I know, and you are right. They certainly interpreted the 2nd Amendment to suit their desire to own assault rifles, even though it was framed as 'providing A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State'.

I was just arguing that the 25th is essentially a moot point, because unless Trump starts running naked round the Oval Office and smearing sh*t on the walls the GOP are going to block any effort to remove Trump via the 25th.
