Post 9/11 the famous speeches by Bush Jr were shown to have an aggregating effect on what were a pretty loose bunch of angry nutters, and IS if you remember thrived on getting headlines by burning/beheading folk on the news every night until there was a blanket ban on showing it - then it stopped.
