Late last year, to absolutely no one’s surprise, McConnell was asked at a conservative conference if he would confirm a new justice if one were to pass or retire in the final months of Trump’s term (indirectly referencing the ‘doctrine’ McConnell created to steal a seat from Obama) and — with a snide grin — he said something to the effect of “you bet I would”.

There’s very little chance that festering turtle carcass will abide by his own doctrine, regardless of RBG’s dying wishes.

Trump will probably release a short list tomorrow ****ing morning.

It really is — one we all feared would come to pass but were desperately hoping we would be wrong.

My missus is literally crying as she now genuinely fears for her sister-in-law (American) and several friends who can’t simply leave if things get as bad as we think they might (especially for women). RBG was one of her idols, as well, as she studied International Politics and Law at uni.

There’s a hell of a lot of emotional release on MSNBC. Joy Reid and Chris Hayes now are doing well keeping it together whilst their guests are all in shock. Both in grief and with the fear of what’s to come.


Oh and Moscow Mitch has just said he’ll follow the guidance of the president. The frog faced Moscow cock sucking ****.

This might seem minor to people not interested in American politics and current events — which obviously excludes everyone in this thread — but how this plays out could genuinely set the course of not just American history, but the direction of the world.

This is a potential domino drop.

We’re facing a global recession much larger than the financial crash of 2008.

The US is likely to have a civil war.

The U.K. is going to face decades of poverty following Brexit and voting in incompetents.

Social media has given cunts a voice and managed to get extreme views mainstream, whilst they can hide saying they are the voice of reason.

A republican judicial majority with Trump in charge is pretty much the worst thing that could happen to the world. Including a pandemic.

What will the world look like in 2025?

Someone might say it’s optimistic to even ask what a world in 2025 would look like at this rate.

Not me, though, because I am not a doom monger... No, I’m literally a bastian of optimism...

That’s the very worst case scenario. US/UK/India/China/Russia all run by authoritarian despots is a very worrying thought.

I hoping this is like a Doctor Who season finale where a miracle reset button is pressed and we wake up on Jan 1st 2015 with no recollection of this shitshow, yet we all have the same human urge to prevent one should it occur.

It’s never been more infuriating not to be able to vote and actively participate in political action.

All I can do is make sure everyone I know votes and live vicariously through them. I’ll be that annoying twat calling round asking if they’ve registered and/or made their plan to vote.

Susan Collins previously said that she would not confirm a Supreme Court justice in October.

She said she’d also oppose seating a justice in lame duck if there’s a change in president based on the election outcome.

But that was before RBG’s passing and she has said a lot of things and then went back on them when the winds shifted or the GOP threatened, so I am not going to hold my breath.

It will be interesting to see what Murkowksi says, as she is also previously on the record indicating she would not confirm before inauguration.
