Finally, someone has bothered to put together a well argued and well thought out response.
Funnily enough, I am LITERALLY a self-made millionaire as well. My degree, however, is in Economics.
Congratulations! I know how hard that is, especially with a theoretical degree that doesn't really apply to the real world around us, because of that pesky "all other things being equal" Get Out of Jail Free card that economists like to use. It is amusing that there are economists who believe they have conclusive proof that BOTH sides of the argument work! I have a few friends who are economists and this is a regular bone of contention, seeing that they are on diametrically opposed sides in most economic/political arguments! ;-)
My support for Trump comes from my firm belief that globalisation is a significant danger to Western society. Globalisation is a race to the bottom. It allows manufacturing to seek out and prey upon the lowest and most abused in the labour market. It removes well paid American jobs at the cost to the American people, in order to provide additional profits and wealth for the super rich. In simple terms, it makes the rich richer and the poor poorer, it destroys families, communities and society. Anyone with any doubt, only need to look at the figures which show that last year the richest 62 people on the planet had a combined wealth equal to half of the world's population, this year it only takes only the richest 8.
It is amusing that in one post you tout his bonafides as a Billionaire, who has made his money from globalization, yet somehow believe that this masquerade about America First is meant to put money back in the pockets of the Rust Belt middle class, which is gone forever.
While I certainly agree that the concentration of wealth in the world is a bad thing, I think it is a leap too far to suggest that Trump's plans are ANYTHING to do with REAL globalization. Rather, they are about making a show of fulfilling the campaign promises he made, that themselves were built on the fears of the uneducated and unwilling. He is making a big show because he is an illusionist....and the real show is elsewhere, where he is making serious changes to the power structure in American politics TO SERVE HIMSELF. He is a carnival barker...and that is being generous.
I also believe that along with globalisation, the continued conflict in the Middle East are the two biggest threats to Western society.
For at least two generations, the western attitude to the Middle East has been a function of appeasement and containment. Give us the oil, we'll give you the money, stay in your lane.
More recently, since the Wahabbi's made it so clear they believe that their rulers (the House of Saud) were not adhering to the tenets of their religion in favor of playing nice with the infidels in the west for wealth, we have become an easy target. However, it is the very profitable business of fear that has created this monster, not the reality of proportion, even though death has been brought to the door of Americans. Donald LOVES that fear, uses that fear, and exploits it to do things like he did this weekend.
The Cato Institute, a CONSERVATIVE THINK TANK that is no friend of liberals, has counted the number of Americans killed in America by citizens of the seven countries on Trump immigration ban since 1975 (that's even before the hostages were taken at the American Embassy in Iran, which many believe was the day terrorism came home to America). From 1975 to 2015, a period of 40 years, there were ZERO. SEVEN COUNTRIES...ZERO KILLED.
However, when looking at the countries INSIDE the "Circle of Terror" those seven countries create (see a map), Egypt is responsible for 162 deaths, UAE 314 deaths and the grand daddy Saudi Arabia citizens are responsible for 2,369 deaths of Americans on American soil. Hmmmm...why no immigration ban for those 3 countries?? I'm sure it isn't the FACT that there are no Trump Hotels in those 7 countries, but there are Trump Hotels and other business ventures in Egypt, UAE, and Saudi, is it??!
From the things he has said, Trump is clearly against globalisation and wants a healthy relationship with Russia. Clinton, on the other hand, is a globalist through and through and is anti-Russian. In fact, it scared me to death when she reiterated her determination to impose a no-fly zone in Syria despite the head of the US airforce stating definitively days before, that it would be impossible to implement a no-fly zone without going to war against Russia.
So, things Clinton said scared you, but things Trump said, and continues to say, don't? Uh huh! Got it! Don't understand it, but now understand that the propaganda campaign was successful on you.
I wouldn't disagree with anyone who said that we have to keep a close eye on Trump from the evidence of his first week, he seems to be implementing his manifesto with commitment and urgency. Cancelling TPP was huge, as has been the jobs and factories he has saved from moving abroad. For a country to be wealthy and healthy the country needs to "make" things, especially a country the size of America. Trump clearly understands this and is intervening in a way that his predecessors haven't; surely he deserves credit for this?
There is rhetoric and then there is action. You have fallen for the rhetoric, seen his Executive Orders (many of which REQUIRE Comgressional funding, so the jury is out on them) and somehow believe he is moving in the right direction? Did you see what he just did to his National Security Council? Did you see thathe removed any mention of the Jews from his Holocaust statement, on the same day he makes the Muslim ban?
He is the loosest of loose cannons.
People are saying Trump is a racist and is anti-Muslim because he has delayed entry to Muslims from 7 countries because of the increased threat of radicalisation in those countries. They forget that there are some 46 other Muslim countries where this delayed entry doesn't apply. Surely if Trump was the Muslim hater he's being painted by the ridiculous media, he would have banned every Muslim?
See above. And, that 46 number is right out of the mouth of the Alternative Facts Lady herself!
As for radical Islam, it's a pity that the million or so Pussy hats from last week weren't protesting in such numbers when the US was dropping bombs on Libya or Syria. If they had maybe there wouldn't be as many radicals to deal with, and he Trump might not have had to impose the delayed entry after all. Just a thought!
My wife might preferto answer that comment herself, seeing as she was one of the millions who marched. However, she is not here, so I will simply say that women, who make up over half the country, are sick and tired of old, white males telling them what they can and cannot do with their own bodies by cutting off access to their healthcare, not even coming close to enacting an Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution, and consistently denying their rights. Even Trump himself, pussy-grabber-in-chief surrounded himself with those old white men when he was signing his Executive Order to defund family planning.
Trump is a first order twat who is masquerading as an all-American hero, because that is his schtick. Unfortunately, some have chosen to accept that schtick at face value without the necessary critical thought of compiling other data that suggests he is absolutely NOT the American Altruist he proclaims himself to be. Watch and see.
