Donald Trump

Could easily get a job lecturing on US politics at a top university. Depends if her partner is willing to up sticks.
As a Fulbright Scholar who went to school at Oxbridge, I’m sure she has all the connections she needs to do almost anything she wants. However, her MSNBC gig is pretty sweet and allows her to do outside work, like the long form podcasts.

While those on the Right might denigrate her and her credentials, there are very few political speakers today who can frame their subject as well as she does in historical context, while revealing often new and interesting facts.

Not all of “they”!!

Sadly, some people are not educated enough to understand the things they vote for and against, believing that “change” is a good thing, no matter what that “change” is.

Additionally, too many people have short memories and believe the lies, rather than the actual events, of four to eight years ago.

And, lest you think this is my bias, it is documented in the hundreds of interviews done with Trumpers at the rallies. They have ZERO idea what they voting for or against, and when faced with the truth are dumbfounded.

One of the funnier ones was when people in the street were asked to give their opinion of events. The interviewer said, “When Obama/Biden did X, how did you feel?” They give a negative answer and even try to explain why they feel that way. Then, the interviewer says, “I’m so sorry, I mixed that up. Perhaps I could ask you again?” Then, asks the same question with Trump as the person.

You can imagine the responses…glowing with praise, including the reasons it was a good policy!!! Parrots, monkeys, call them what you will, informed voters they are not.

Maya Angelou said that when a person shows you who they are, believe them the first time. Trump showed us. Too many didn’t believe him or just don’t understand the lies.

Project 2025, or as close to it as he can shove down America’s throat, is coming to a town near me, and I’m not looking forward to quite a lot of it.

If the phalanx of sycophants, and extremists he has floated for the highest positions in government don’t scare people, nothing will…until it’s too late! And, he won’t give a fuck! This is his last Hurrah and he’s going to ride it all the way to the bank!!

Anyone think it’s NOT corruption that he comes out as a CryptoBro as soon as he’s given crypto and told he can float his own coin? Anyone think it’s good governance to simply turn Crypto regulation over to the CryptoBro community?

The man knows 2 things: Graft and Lies…and he uses them in concert to generate fees for his family. He may be the last Emperor of the American Empire, but it might depend on the last person he talked to, because that’s who seems to hold his mind at any given time.

America has only worked for 250 years because the “checks and balances” built into the system were both adhered to and respected. That “quaint notion” has been thrown out of the window by those that seek to rewrite America in their own prose and force the power needed to accomplish it.

The only question now is whether the (seeming) sycophants in the House and Senate will cede their own power to Trump and MAKE
him Emperor. From there, it’s left to someone with a law degree to seek redress all the way to the SCOTUS, to see if the Republic really has fallen.

Having a President willing to press all the buttons and pull all the levers of power AT ONCE, may change America in ways NO-ONE can imagine today.

We will see if the REPUBLIC is more important than the world be Emperor, and also whether the electorate understands the difference or the resultant fallout.

One can only hope someone…ANYONE…stands up and gains traction, as we slide down the slippery slope. My biggest fear is that the greed, avarice and self-serving desires of Trump and his close circle doesn’t ruin America’s economy for a generation or more, and all for the sake of lining their (and their billionaire backers) pockets with billions and billions of the dollars that slosh around and through the system. Musk is there for his cut, and the rest are stood in line with their hands out…or in the pockets of the people.

As I’ve said repeatedly, my goal has always been to have enough money that whatever fuckwit fucks us over, I’m in a position to survive and protect my family. That remains to be seen, unfortunately…which means there are about 300,000,000 people who are in even greater jeopardy than me!!

Good luck to us all!
I realise not everyone voted for it, but enough did. My point is that no-one can say they weren’t warned. No one can say that Musk being involved in government wasn’t flagged as a likely consequence of a Trump victory. No one can say that they weren’t on notice that Trump would appoint a load of cronies to positions of power. No one can say they weren’t warned about a reckless line of policies across the spectrum.

It was all there for everyone to see. You saw it, as did many others, but when push comes to shove enough Americans either chose to ignore the signs, or saw them and didn’t care, or even welcomed them.

And now you have the richest man in the world, ranting like a mafia boss. Dangerously emboldened in a way that should worry any sane individual. This is all part of the choice that America has made.

Much as Brexit was a choice, made out of ignorance and belief in lies by many, so the vote for change was made.

“How bad could it be?”

Well, we are about to find out!!

Yes I fully accept that we willingly made that preposterous choice too.

I think, with both countries, we are seeing an inability to cope with national decline that is manifesting itself in blame being apportioned to what is perceived as the establishment, with a presumption that there are easy solutions which are, in actual fact, likely to accentuate that decline.

The motivations behind Brexit: immigration, reducing red tape and an ability to control our own affairs have all got objectively worse in the last few years, along with a huge increase in political instability- and I expect the same playbook in the States over the next few years, with the possible exception of immigration which will probably be materially reduced under Trump but with wider negative implications for the US economy.

The balance of power in world affairs is realigning and is inexorable in my view.

Great post. Just one small detail. Is this a typo? The guy hasn't done a days graft in his life.

Sadly, vast swathes of people weren't warned. As CB posted wany of them were utterly dumbfounded when presented with cold hard facts. And when facts are so hard to pick out from the noise, people simply haven't got the time to wade through all the bullshit, and instead 'go with their gut instincts' or just ignorantly vote the way they've always voted.

They only had to look at what was coming out of Trump’s mouth to be sufficiently warned.
