Democrats need to wake up - the other side isn't going to play fair and they don't believe in Democracy.

What's the best way forward?... Somehow engage with the Right and support legislation that would help them. Try to overcome gerrymandering/voting rights restrictions. And jail those - including Trump - who participate in illegal campaign activity.

Democracy itself is under siege in America - I'm not at all confident that Democracy will prevail in the next 10 years or so.

Sadly I tend to agree with your sentiment that democracy is under the threat as it is here in the UK. Trump is an incompetent clown who's only talent (if you could call it that) is lying and gas lighting people like the Nazi's did. His Goebbels mantra of the big lie “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

Trump isn't the problem its the next guy the smarter Republican who comes in and runs with all this, With a more smarter more sophisticated operator who knows what will happen? The problem know is that the Dems are so hell bent on nailing Trump that they are gonna lose sight of what is happening. They need to stop attempts at voter suppression whilst tightening up the legislation in terms of executive priviledges of the President. Trump should be a belweather and warning to the US how weak the supposed checks and balances really are.

It is unlikely a smarter more sophisticated Republican operator would make any headway with the Trump cult following because Trump would never endorse his successor. If Trump's not standing, a sizeable chunk of the Trump support would vote for no one. Trump needs to be prosecuted and jailed for his numerous crimes without any government interference. The Trump cult are too far down the rabbit hole to ever be swayed from their undying support for him whoever his eventual successor is.

In theory I agree but as long as Trump is around there’s little chance someone knocks him out of the box. That’s how cults of personality work. Now if he turns the mantle over to one of his idiot children maybe we’d have to worry but he isn’t going to do that while he’s alive and kicking. Everyone else has to kiss his ring and move lock-step with him on every policy issue or risk alienating the cult and being devoured by it. There’s no room for distinguishment. Much more insidious are the moves on the sleepy Secretary of State jobs who focus on election certification and legislatures attempting to grant themselves power to overturn results.

Assuming he gets to 2024 and is able to stand legally, what's gonna happen after then ? In terms of health the chances are him losing again would probably finish him off.

Realistically the hardcore cult following is small and not big enough to win an election. At some point the penny will drop maybe at the primary's possibly 2024 that Trump isn't the Wizzard of Oz he claims to be. There will be a reckoning in the Republican party but its these ideologies that you can overturn an election that could live on and become a reality.

No one can move on (on either side) until he's gone, mate. Hell, the fucking Wall Street Journal published a letter to the editor from him just a bit ago that says exactly what you'd expect about "stolen election", etc. etc.
