Dongle

Does anyone know can you use a dongle with a nexus 7
As Morecambe & Wise said, "There's no answer to that!".

Has it got a USB port? If so, then I'd imagine you could.

Edit: That assumes, even if it has a USB port, that the OS supports the use of a dongle. The alternative is to use a MiFi (mobile wi-fi) device, which sets up a wireless hotspot using the mobile telephone network.

The info is for one of my students they have bought a lead but the nexus isn't picking the dongle up . Would it come up automatically or would the have to search ???? .

If it hasn't picked it up then I suspect that Android doesn't support it. You'd probably have to make some changes to the Nexus (by rooting it) to do that and I wouldn't recommend it if you don't know what you're doing.

Assuming they have more than the most basic handset, the easiest thing to do is to turn their smartphone into a wireless hotspot and connect the tablet that way. If it's a 3G or 4G signal that will be fine. The only things to bear in mind are to be aware it's their mobile data they're using (i.e. don't stream a bloody film) and that it will drain the phone battery rapidly, so a charger is handy.
