Dortmund (H) - CL QF | Post-Match Thread

Super impressed with Haaland
Not just a goal machine but excellent link up play
If the price is right he’s a must!

Quality game of football between 2 very good sides. Dortmund were extremely effective in minimising the space for us to play into and pressed high keeping Stones and Diaz on their toes. They also kept possession very well. We looked better 2nd half when our passing was quicker and more precise and should have been 3-0 before they equalised imo. Ederson far too casual and was lucky to have not conceded against Bellingham first half. Fancy us to score in Germany but no doubt it will be a horrible, nervy watch. This team wants it badly enough I think. They just need to keep their heads together and the quality will hopefully see us through.

Some 'interesting' comments. We weren't at our best that's for sure, missed some chances that we really should put away and could have had a pen - I thought Can kicked Rodri's knee, but strangely he went down holding his head and there didn't appear to be any contact there. Got the rub of the green with Bellingham's disallowed goal IMHO. But.....never gave up, even though Rodri and Cancelo were oddly off colour. I genuinely believe we will go there, everyone will be a lot sharper and I can see us scoring 1 or 2, as their defence can be opened up.....and then we'll see what Dortmund are made of. Yes I would have liked 2-0 but I'm far from unhappy. Dortmund had a go and scored a fine goal, but we still showed some fight when we weren't brilliant - and you need that sometimes.
We will go there and win.
I honestly feel Pep weighs the team down when "its a biggy" by telling them over and over again "make no mistakes"
Its like telling a good boxer to forget about their own attributes and (over)concentrate on your opponent.

My back up for this conclusion is before every derby.
He waxes lyrical about the rags, history trophies strength blah blah and we fall flat on our faces.

But when City need to play, and relax then we are on paper the best team in Europe.
My only advice to Pep would be, stop playing chess in your head out of respect for these clubs and go let our lads do what 99% of the time they normally do...play with freedom and win

We didn’t play well tonight and still won (some may argue fortunately). If we play at our best in the second leg we will have too much for them, play like we did tonight and we could be out. I would be suprised if we don’t score in Dortmund more than once so I think we should be okay.

Thought we were a bit too scared to commit men forward tonight due to their threat on the counter which meant we didn’t create as many chances as usual (particularly in the first half).

All to play for in the second leg and will be another very good game.

Foden and KDB both excellent. Rodri didn’t play well. As for Dortmund I thought Bellingham showed outstanding maturity for a 17 year old kid- he’s special. Haaland showed signs of why he’s valued so highly as well.

He had an average game and if you look at the game through anything other than Blue Tinted Glasses he was by far and away an average player tonight !!
This is a joke right? KDB did:

- the break-out pass to Foden, and then he finished with a good strike for the first goal.
-An excellent pass to Foden who made a very poor shot when he was alone.
- A great play where he got rid of 2 Dortmund players and his shoot was excellent and almost a goal.
- A great run on the right where he got rid of a player, and he gave a great pass to Foden for an easy goal, which he failed.
- A great assist to Gundogan for the 2nd goal.

Every time he had the ball, he did the right play. Every single big opportunity(except one from incredible dribbling by Foden) was made by KDB.

You been reading my Twitter timeline, you missed the bit abut Bernardo being ineffective
Ha ha....not on Twitter but I do read Rabin, SLBSN, Wozza and Prestwich Blue. But I agree Bernardo was a bit quiet tonight, need the real Bernie back next week.
