Douglas Luiz

Why is it so difficult for you to appreciate the complacency and errors we have made in the last few transfer windows?

Pep has admitted himself that he wishes he’d granted more business to be done last summer but at the time said he was happy with the squad - so no, Luiz not have been considered as a target.

It seems you just want to keep banging on this drum of not needing a midfielder whilst 99% of this forum disagree. Waiting another 4 months does not guarantee any signing will work any better than if signed in January.
I think the midfield situation has been handled terribly since 2021. KP and Nunes happened, Kovacic somehow became the main guy in midfield (he was never meant to be - Nunes spot was) Gundo came back as a stopgap and now there is talk of another one with Luiz.

We need a midfielder, i genuinely don’t see how people think we don’t. The club haven’t found a solution year on year now. We can blame Pep for last summer but Begiristain has failed to get the midfielders we need. He’s built some brilliant midfields but his track record recently has very average to poor.

Imo City have used the January window really well so far in conjunction with many players returning to form and or fitness.

The club probably feel that, initially, we have enough to get us into next years CL & go deep in the FAC & CL whilst integrating the new signings ready for a strong, fast start to next season.

In that regard we could be the best prepared & stacked team in the PL,
whilst others are still trying to get their business done in September.

Pragmatism, and our thanks, will probably be needed with Eddie,John S, KdB, Bernardo, NatAk, Gundo & Steffan as a new young team of champions is built.
Well let's see after tonight how deep in CL we go this season . . .

The same poster was repeatedly banging the "we won't be signing anyone in January" drum at the start of the month, yet the rebuild has started with a flurry of signings, so I wouldn't hang your hat on what they're saying.
Oddly they also seem distraught at the Marmoush signing...don't understand how anyone can think we're not crying out for a capable midfielder right now.

Mea Culpa !!

Yes we do need a centre midfielder, ideally one with good pace and energy

I am sure Txiki and others are aware of this and will sort it when they end our 6 year search for a left back

clearly the 250m of current midfielders wasnt enough
To be fair, they are short in central midfield, they've only really got caicedo, lavia and Enzo. One if those is always injured, another is needed in defence. Not really got anybody else upto standard after those 3. They spent £40m on dewsbury hall who is a championship player their interest in a central midfielder makes more sense than their apparent interest in yet another winger.

It's likely that Luiz would also look absolutely terrible as soon as he stepped into that side - most of the current players who look nowhere near good enough for them were, in theory, perfectly capable when they first joined. Club-wide problem IMO.
