Dreading ITV

Both as bad as each other.

Why do they next washed out players making comments between matches? If they showed more of the match we could make up our own minds and not need to be told what happened.

its on bbc and they will keep it as its the only football they have

The BBC share football league coverage with sky next season and will show some live fizzy pop games and the play offs. They've also got the carling cup final.

If the proposed mergers of channel 4 and 5 get the go ahead they will bid for one of the premier league llve packages with ESPN doing a joint bid with setanta against sky. (unless they buy them which has been speculated in the grauniad last week). ESPN will then go for 2 of the three packages on offer.

if espn get premiership games on what channels will they be shown?

Unfortunately at the mo there only on sky. I wouldn't be surprised if they started broadcasting on cable, freesat and freeview/top up TV if they win the rights.

The new tv deal for the priemier league will be the bigger than the last one money wise. Sky cant afford to lose the rights it has the Champions League , football league and Spanish football if they loose the PL they will be fucked. The amount of people will drop there Sky deals so I expect Sky to get 3-4 packages with Setanta getting the other rights. It wont shock me if Setanta got more than Sky as they are fast becoming a big player in Sports rights. They show the most football compared to Sky along with top class boxing Setanta are getting more and more people signing up for them.

The BBC may be a dark horse in this. They lost the FA Cup and England rights so they could bid for one of the deals with the match of the day as well they could get 1 of the deals it would be nice to see some live football on free to air TV but I just cant see that happening any time soon.

But Setanta are one of the worst run companies in the country! They've left people without a picture for months and making them pay £12 a month. The picture quality is poor and so are their staff, commentators etc.

Football administrators have got short memories. Remember how ITV digital, a spin off company of ITV who had the rights to Championship football went bust near the end of the 2001/02 season (our KK promotion season) leaving Championship clubs without TV income the following season - this nearly crippled a few at the time. ITV Digital was set up in such a way that the company could go bust owing millions yet the main ITV network would be unscathed - good accountancy practice but poor customer service.

Who is to say ITV will survive the impending depression, as it's not in great shape as it is - could history repeat itself?

In any event football should not have let ITV near the game again after how they let everyone down last time - no matter what they bid.

That could happen with ITV and it wouldn't shock me if it did. The BBC could get the rights for a package if they want to with the lience fees they get they could go all out and get a deal but if they do get a deal and spend over the odds there will be people giving out saying it will be a waste of money.
