Drink A Drink A Drink For Colin The King This Dec 26th

33 years on and the same opponents - what a great day that was- I was in the Main Stand and the buzz in the Kippax as they could see a change being made for the second half - never heard noise like it when he came on - simple The Greatest ever!!!

Ask any Blue of a certain age who was the greatest player they ever saw...

Colin Bell

Forget the England and European stars, forget Brazil and the 74 team its Colin,

more than a player to our Club and fans, an inspirational figurehead.

A career cut short by a crude Buchan challange, never to grow into the regognised world class player that we knew he was.

Ignored by the southern based football media and has never recieved the regognition he deserved except by us.

We will not forget and he will always be the King.

I was in the Kippax that day. We literally sang it in waves constantly for the whole of the second half at full volume. The best atmosphere that I can recall. The team was lifted to a memorable victory and The King almost scored himself but you could see he was no longer the force of nature that he had been. Grown men were crying and singing at the same time. I could not talk the next day. Looking back it was the end of an era.

I remember it like yesterday i also remember there were pitch battles with Newcastle fans & it was pretty ugly lots of bad injuries

33 years ago and there's probably quite a few on here who were there that day, the kippax could generate a proper atmosphere in them days but that one was something special you had to be there to understand. unfortunately its something our newer fans will be unlikely to experience anymore, east stands just a shadow of those days sad in a way but time moves on.And i'll be raising a glass or two to Colin on boxing day now the O.Ps reminded me cheers.

The hairs on the back of my neck still stand when i remember that. As crystal clear now as it was then. The roar was deafening, the player genius, the atomsphere electric. Nothing and i mean nothing has touched that moment since. I include the Play off final in that as when Dicky scored, many had left and Wembley was no Maine Road.

I was there, in the Platt Lane End the night Buchan sythed him down and I was also there the day he made that comeback, standing in the corner between the Kippax and North Stand and I was completely overwhelmed by the reaction of the packed stadium to him coming onto the pitch. It was unbelievable, with grown men choking back tears whilst constantly singing his name throughout the second half; but there was also a sadness that all didn't seem well and he was clearly not able to move around the pitch as he had before the injury. A cruel end to a fantastic player's career - and allegedly Buchan has never bothered to apologise for the challenge - a disgrace!

I was in the kippax that day and the day Buchan killed the King. That day against Newcastle lives in my memory. I was directly in front of the tunnel, felt like I saw him coming on first... Remember shouting out that Bell was coming on. It was like we had just scored. Didn't cry then, but cried just now reading the posts and remembering back to that great day. I will toast that day this year as strongly as anything else in my life.

And..... I will drink a drink a drink to Colin the king the king the king, he is the leader of our team, he's the greatest inside forward that the world has ever seen.

and later.

all you need is Bell na na na na na...all you need is Bell na na na na na all you need is Bell, Bell....Bell is all you need.
