Just wondering if you think it is an issue .4 or 5 lads on day of having a few beers . or is it Profesional Sportsmen letting the Club down .?I dont think it is any worse than at other clubs and certainly a far cry away from the 70s onwards ,Italian managers are from a much different culture & just cant get there head round it

-- Sat Oct 30, 2010 10:47 am --

Did not see the other thread & was looking for one .new i should have gone to specsavers

Sadly, I've posted on this issue at least two times before, my view is that if you are a professional sportsman and want to be a winner then you do not drink or smoke and you get plenty of sleep. i.e. you devote your life to being the best. Now I know that's very boring and will not get you a good deal for births and marriages with OK and Hello magazines but it will give you the best chance to be the best you can be. It's a winner's attitude. There are probably some fans on here who if they had behaved differenly as teenagers could have made it in sport but instead are stuck doing jobs they dislike but hey they can get tanked at the weekend. Others have made it in sport but perhaps not achieved as much as they could have done ( City fans Ricky Hatton and Freddie Flintoff come to mind ). My belief is that a winning attitude is essential and that means making any sacrifice that is necessary. We got beat last Sunday the players should have been thinking how to put that right not partying.

That's totally spot on.

The worrying thing about the pics of Johnson especially are that he looks totally out of it. I know there will be loads of guys on here that like a "lot" to drink, but even when I was a student and was drunk for four years, there weren't many who got that paralytic.

Players have been shipped out in the past because they drank too much, and at times when we were far from the top of the league. If we want to be the very best then I suspect some players will quickly discover that means skill and TOTAL professionalism.

It's not just an issue of young footballers not being committed to their sport - at the end of the week, or when everyone else is going out, they just don't know how to relax without involving drink. Friday night after work invariably revolves around alcohol.

It's the same with anything though.

If you want to be the best you can be in any career you don't harm your body (booze & fags) and you get regular sleep (and I bet there ain't too many critics who follow that righteous lifestyle), and you lead a boring lifestyle. Unfortunately it is that, boring.

100% behind Mancini. Either pack in the drinking or your're out. Footballers should follow the example of athletes.
Well said. Either pack in the drinking or piss off to the Championship.
