Drinks with Garry Cook

It's nice that he is prepared to talk City to supporters in bars.

Personally I don't care whether he does or not, don't even care if he loves City or not.

So long as can put his vision into practice with a minimum of fuss, thats fine by me. More interested in what he does, than what he talks about.

Exactly. I wasn't a random stranger. We're not talking about anything proprietary. We're talking about the approach to the business plan. The people on this board are unbelievable sometimes.

Why is my reaction 'unbelievable'? Garry has rightly or wrongly developed a reputation as somebody that speaks out of turn, I haven't just made this up. I'm sure that he's a stand up bloke and an excellent Chief Exec and I'm equally sure that your chat revealed few if any startling revelations.

I too have met many senior executives and I cannot think of a single one that would discuss the contents of a Business Plan over drinks with strangers in what presumably was a public area.

I've never met Cook, I don't know him and I wish him every success at City but I maintain my original point that I find it innapropriate for a senior executive to be discussing club matters in a social situation, he's a paid executive that seems to think he's the story.

And if the poster had written "I went into a bar last night and saw Garry Cook, I told him I was a Blue and he completely blanked me and walked away". I suppose you would be telling us he is up is own arse and he thinks he is
the story. With some you just cant win!

Is it appropriate that Garry Cook discusses City's business plan with strangers in bars? This is the second or third story I've read along similar lines and it seems rather disturbing that he's so free and easy with information.

I realise that he wont be passing on state secrets and I'm sure he's 'on message' but it seems a little odd to me that he chooses hotel bars as his preferred outlet for information distribution. You'd have thought after the New York fiasco he'd have learned to be a little more discrete?

In the past we all felt alienated by City officials....Now we have one on the fan's side and willing to talk openly, He gets slated..

City fans eh...ffs.

Hey, Austin Blue, did he drop any subtle hints about which players we might be going for in the transfer window and whether Roberto will still be in charge. Go on, you can trust me. I won't tell a soul, honest.

There were no startling revelations, or the careless sharing of any information that would be sensitive. I didn't mean to imply that. I was trying to convey a sense of the professionalism and quality in our CEO.

For the record, I've been CEO of three multi-million pound corporations (a million pounds doesn't mean what it used to)... I think it's appropriate and right for a good CEO to talk openly about values and the high level of a business plan. Proprietary details are not appropriate, and weren't shared. The jobs of a CEO are to set strategy, line up the resources to execute the strategy, and then to enroll all stakeholders to the plan. I found Garry to have very clear thinking, great articulation, and a heart for all the right kind of things that make a difference. Jim Collins, in 'Good to Great' identifies that kind of leadership of symptomatic of the organizations that make the leap to enduring excellence.

-- Sun Mar 21, 2010 12:44 pm --

Of course he did.... rhymes with Mionel Lessi. Seriously, he shared nothing proprietary, nor did I ask.

And our transfer policy, once explained, made great sense to me.... It turns out it's a little more complex than a game of Football Manager
.

Such a shame you cannot expand on this sentance as it is the most intriging IMO.

You fully well know Garry and co read this forum. I dont think he will be too happy with you attention seeking on here telling stories of when you met.

Give it a rest, ive spoke to garry one to one before but I have never tittle tattled on a forum because i dont think its right, no matter what he may tell you.

I think it tells a lot about the person who writes away on a football forum for the masses to see.

I'm sorry you see it as "tittle tattle." I was trying to bring some direct, relevant information and some personal opinion. To me, that's the point of a Football Forum.

And it was magic at the Fulham game today.... We out sang them all day long!

hope you and the lads enjoyed the game. i thought we played well until we swopped and injured rsc for a defensive mid, which conceded to much ground and put us on the back foot. have you converted them into blues

Great game, thanks. And yes, I think we have 3 new American recruits.
