On strike again.
Does a GB licence holder still need an International Driving Permit for Italy?

I am finding conflicting info on the AA and RAC websites.

And the UK Gov website says info can be found on the AA and the RAC websites! What a laugh.

If your just renting a car then I've done that a few times in Italy with my UK licence. Its not like any of the locals bother with driving lessons anyway in my experience.

No, I'll be driving my own GB plated car.

Is that the same gov.uk website that says you can use your UK licence to drive in all other EU/EEA countries and Switzerland?

If you are planning to live in Italy the rules are different:

<a class="postlink" href="https://www.gov.uk/living-in-italy" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://www.gov.uk/living-in-italy</a>

Rules of the road:
2 beeps on the horn mean stay where you are, I am going to overtake you either side, even on a single lane road ;-)

Having driven in Rome (rush hour) and Naples (personal police escort) I'd highly reccomend not to drive in Italy!

This every time.

Having hired a car to get from Venice to Lake Garda I had to return the car to Bergamo airport on our way home. Decided to take the winding scenic route round the Lake. Big mistake.

I had trucks and cars just taking straight lines through the curves, not caring for sides of the road. All this at 80/90 plus miles an hour. Eventually made it to the end of the Lake in one piece and had to pull over whilst the missus prised my white fingers off the steering wheel. Terrifying.

Just watch out for the sneaky letter that arrive once home. They'll say you drifted in to a bus lane a pester you like fuck for like 90 Euros. Fuck em.
