Mesh heads, go for a brand name. I went TD11 by Roland, nice kit, I got it 2nd hand which I dont usually, but it was worth it. One of the pedals broke, a crash broke, but the parts are easy to find.

I upgraded to that from an Alesis, which was great for a budding learner but I couldnt get the parts for it and the kits were a bit shit. Roland at least felt like a real drum head. The software for the Roland was better too, way better.

I've got an Alesis Nitro set sat in the loft. Complete with stool, headphones and speaker - will sell for £100.

As the title suggests other instruments, does anyone have good recommendations for a beginning electric bass guitar? Doesn’t have to be “cheap”, but reasonably affordable and good quality. Kind of like a Toyota.

Hi

After a bit of advice feom any BM musicians... my Lads been having drumming lessons at school for the last Year or so, seems to have stuck with it and really enjoying it so We were thinking maybe now is the time to buy Him a drum kit for at home rather than Him practicing with pans!

I'd rather an electric kit so He can use it with an amp and headphones so We get some peace and quiet! Is there anything in particular to look out for or even any recommended music shops, everything I can find online is just the usual mix of snobbery "don't buy this, buy this instead as it will last 20 Years" at this point He could very well still change His mind, he's only 7!

Fingers crossed there is a resident expert, if He had decided to take up playing guitar I would have had a bit of an idea! Thanks in advance.

This is exactly why it's such a shame we barely have any music shops left, PMT on Regent Road shutting was a massive blow. Being able to walk in and have a natter with staff who were all musicians and knew what they were talking about was important as shit.
