Drum?

A drum is pretty much essential to generate a good constant atmos. I can't see the problem with them ! I often find myself tapping my foot to them even when it's at games where the opposition have them . I like the rythem when done properly.

Any persistent noise is good IMO as long as it's not truly obnoxious (like the England band). I don't find a drum obnoxious and you hear them all over Europe at some of the most atmospheric grounds. I'd rather hear a drum that the unnerving silence at times yesterday before the penalty.

The fucker can bang the cunting thing next to you then. All game. And in the toilet at half time.

Drums? Piss 'em.

The fact that their is a debate about a drum shows that it shouldnt be used. I would say 70% of people are opposed to the idea, and even if someone is banging it properly these people wouldn't join in with it because they would be cringing their sides at it. And when it eventually gets kicked out, everyone who would have sang along to it will be waiting for something else to generate an atmosphere leading to constant silence altogether. There are better ways to generate an atmosphere without alienating people.

the best way for everyone to generate a good atmosphere is just to sing loud and fucking proud, look at napolis atmosphere v us last year, the etihad should be a fortress, have the fear factor not just on the pitch, but off it.

Can we have bagpipes and trumpets as well, maybe cymbals and a triangle for the junior blues, a couple of accordions, and flutes for the east level three, guitars for the Colin Bell etc

So the only way to create an atmosphere within a football stadium is to bang on a drum?
The biggest cheer a drum will bring, will be when someone puts their foot through it!

When we sang 'can you sing without your drum' to Ajax fans ,when they stopped they pretty much proved that they couldn't . Obviuosly I'm not sayin you need a drum in order to create an atmos at games but a good drummer will keep a very good atmos and keep people singing . It's like the difference between doin a kareeoki with or without backing music . I watch alot of foreign football and the best ones for atmos have a drum . It can be done really badly but when done right ,with the correct rythem ,they are brilliant .

What can I say , I love the atmos generated in countries such as Germany,Poland, the Balkans and Greece ect . I'd love that sort of thing to happen here but unfortunately we have too many that are too cool for school and won't let their hair down resulting in, for the most part, a shit atmos .give me drums, bouncing, constant singin , banners , flags , smoke bombs ect over people standing with their arms folded any day of the week . Although with things like banners and flags plus the smoke bomb here and there, I think we're gettin better .
