Dynamo Kiev - Post Match Thread

I took my 5yr old tonight, his first game. Before half time with people heading for refreshments/toilets he asked where everyone was going. I told him for their pints of lager. He replied "Do they need cheering up because it's not good"? The bloke next to us laughed and said he won't want to come again after this....told his mum it was the best night ever when he got home.
Christ, if that was his best night ever he must be easily pleased... he'll probably soil his keks with excitement watching Pep's City next season ;)

Different ways to look at it. Yes job done but given our recent struggles and the strong attacking team we threw at them, I can't be anything but disappointed. In fact I was somewhat annoyed at the celebrations by Hart at the final whistle. If that performance was something to celebrate then I must be missing something and making the quarter finals as far as I'm concerned isn't that big a f*cking deal.

Thankfully Sergio looked absolutely disgusted at the end and so he should have with the lack of service he received.

If 0-0 was the plan then don't field such a strong line up. I wasn't surprised that he started with Kompany, Silva and Aguero but I thought we were going to try to win at home, which with the lack of momentum we have, seemed logical. But what they dished up, at a significant cost to our top 4 chances, was nothing short of woeful.
I've said it before and I honestly believe we fully tried to win that game. Yaya and Kun we're trying their best and Nando and Dinho were flying in a lot trying to win the ball back high up the pitch. I don't see how others are thinking we intentionally played that way, we just didn't play well and were helped by the fact that Kiev were even worse.

A win is a win
Yaya was fantastic tonite
He kills me when he hobbles about off the ball
And then bombs forward
Aguero worked his but off tonite
Silva gutted it out with a few magic moments
Mangala and MDM did their damn job!
Navas had himself a few bad moments but kept on fighting
Clichy and Zabs gave it their all
Joe showed up when we needed him too
Not pretty but we did the job
guts performance
Lesson learned?
Win the first pool
Vince.... Good luck and hurry back

"We put in minimal effort" - was that a deliberate tactic? Or is that what the team have been doing for the majority of the season? Discuss......
It really is baffling why so many people are praising what was quite a poor and very flat performance as great 'game management'. It's delusion.

His 'great game management' has fucked us for the derby. Having slept on it I've woken up even more pissed off about the team selection than I was last night.

Pellegrini should've gone last summer. Begiristain's management of the club has been borderline negligent.

like your positivity mate, but it was poor fare to be honest, kiev didn't really want to go for it, and neither did we. job was done 2 weeks ago

Yep, blame the manager as that's nothing new for you!
I'll blame the manager when I see fit thanks. Last night I thought he made errors in the team selection and the performance wasn't very good. Do you want me to praise him for that?
Luckily we only have another couple of months to go.

Pellegrini should've gone last summer. Begiristain's management of the club has been borderline negligent.

We had been waiting on Pep and he wasnt going to come for another year so blaming Begiristain after getting arguably the best manger there is for next season is rather laughable.

What errors did he make?
I'd have rested Silva and played Sterling. One gets a much needed rest and one gets much needed confidence. I'd have rested Kompany who was playing his 6th game in 20 days and started either Mangala or Demichelis, doesn't really matter as Kiev were never going to worry us too much. That's what I'd have done, that's my opinion and sorry if it doesn't tally with your own.

Just so we know where your coming from, what else has he being doing wrong in your eyes to be classed "borderline negligent" as you put it?

The amount of money spent on absurdly average players, such as Mangala and Otamendi, meaning we rely on very few players who as a result are becoming increasingly injury prone.

The fact that his 'holistic' style of management was supposed to yield youth team graduates but the only one to have played any regular part is a Nigerian lad signed when he was 17.

The backing of a manager so clearly out of his depth it is embarrassing he is in stewardship of a top club. It was clear to all and sundry this time last year that he was finished, and his leadership of the club could have set us back years.
