I didn't truly appreciate these fellas at the time, but they were pure quality.

Indeed they were.

As were Queen, didn't like them at all first time round but with hindsight and all that.....

(calm down jim) ;-)

It's like all music, your age and circumstances, when you hear songs
for first time, you then get older and not in a gang or feel you have
to go with the flow, you then look back not blinkered and listen.
ELO were supposed to be beatle rip off before oasis.

I agree with you there, I was very blinkered back in the day. These days I couldn't give a shite if a song/band/artist is popular or not, if I like it, I'll listen to it and fuck anyone else.
I seem to remember reading that George Harrison was once asked what type of music would the Beatles be making if they were still around, and he replied ELO

Still a classic album, 30 years on. I remember buying that as a limited edition blue vinyl release. Still have it somewhere! Vinyl? Ask your parents.

you ever listen to the travelling wilburys with george harrison, whats his face from elo, tom petty, bob dylan and roy orbison? nothing groundbreaking but i quite like listening to a few of their songs now and then - just good musicians with nothing left to prove having a bit of a laugh. shame orbison had to go and die so early on, when you hear him come in on the songs they did you can see just how brilliant a voice he had.
