Ebay advice

Tell him to sling his hook. Or check him out see if he is a legit guy with a few buys.

I do not use Ebay but i think he is trying to deal you face to face which people find harder to say no to. So he gets their and makes you an offer there and then.

It is a common wheeler dealer trick.

I buy and sell on ebay all the time, if someone refused to let me see the goods before I buy I just wouldn't buy it's that simple, turn it around my friend would you buy a car or a tv even if the seller said you couldn't see it until you have paid, leaving it until the hammer fall is risky too because if they don't buy it you will have lost many other potential buyers, P.S. I also wouldn't meet up on a supermarket car park because it could be stolen and you given false details.

If its a lot of money, then surely you can understand why he wants to have a look. You may know 'you're ' trustworthy, but how's he to know.

If you are worried about him coming to your house, arrange to meet him somewhere else, it is a lapto, so is portable.

I would suggest not a dimly lit car park at 2am though.

am hoping some others cant sleep......

listed laptop on Ebay today over 7 day auction. Someone wants to come and see it. Is this normal or should my excellent photos suffice? I dont want loads of people coming round really! Should I say they can come if they win the auction and not take it if they are unhappy about something?

Been selling on e-bay for 10+ years so its not an unusual request as he must live fairly local I would have thought.
Check out his Feedback Rating and look at both his positive and any negative ratings.
If it seems OK,then arrange ! I don`t kknow what price you`re selling if for,so I too would probably want to look.
How many items have you sold before on E-Bay ?? If you have a low score, then he may feel justified in requesting a view,as there are some cowboys who operate on there.
If the comps as good as you say, then no problems and he may be a legitamate buyer.
Don`t accept a cheque,CASH ONLY (and check it) or better still tell him you will only accept PAYPAL payments.
Good luck and if you need anymore help send me a PM.
oakie.

Under these circumstances I asgree with the advice above
BUT
ordinarily I'd prefer a cheque over PayPal any day. Cheques are guaranteed after 7 days whereas Pay Pal is fraught with dangers.

Tell you what, I'll give you a tenner for it and save you the hassle. Can't pay till Thursday though ;-)

Perversely I've enjoyed reading this thread nearly as much as the Kinky one.

I'm totally with you on the first part, but question the second.

Supermarkets are very safe because they're public, and you control the time and the place - so you know what you're getting into and what you're setting up (something familiar to you) which could equally be down your local boozer as well, or bank etc.. and I was tempted to throw a few 'off-colour' venues in here just for laughs.

One irony that my old lecturer once pointed out (and this was before I got into international trade after reading the course at Uni) is that most people believe deals are closed in the boardroom... the reality is that there are plenty of occasions when they're closed in deserted railway station parking lots with the keys left in the ignition of an idling Mercedes Benz.

There is always some risk attached to any deal (although I'll not get into hostage/crisis situations in this thread) but you can mitigate the worst of it in various ways with practical due diligence.

---

Not sure how you go about protecting your daughter in this transaction though.. Skiddypants has a fair point... I mean, no one's mentioned the buyer could be a ManUre supporter and plotting to use your technology in an evil plan to hack into the league's computers and/or the wireless communications systems of the referees this afternoon - and you could end up internally tormented forever suffering untold eternal damnation as a prisoner of your own mind...

I'm surprised Sweynforkbeard's not chipped in on this one, but would suggest if you can get that guy in as part of your security detail on the above transaction along with any Russian or Israeli diplomatic bag men you'll be well set and should hold no fear.

Say no. Buying on Ebay is always a risk and people know the risk that what they're buying could not be what they hope for but that's the risk you have to take and you don't want some randomer popping round. Just tell them to get to fuck and if they don't want it someone else will.
