just thought this kid needed a mention. how come we dont sign him now before he is valued at 70-80 million.
Mainly because he will never be worth that due to the fact the French League isn't the greatest although its improving. As for not signing him, people seem to have had interest in him before but never followed it up.
Meh, he's a bit like Neymar who's also courted by a host of top tier clubs. That Lille squad is a bunch of close friends who came through the youth academy together. He always said he doesn't feel a need to move, just yet.
Lille is a club on the rise in France. They're building a new stadium that will be ready for next season. Great new ground, google it. He always stated he would like to play for Lille in the new stadium so might be he sticks around for another year. He genuinly loves that club that's also located right over the border to Belgium so he's close to his family. Besides, you can clearly the progress he makes. Made his debut at 16 and became the youngest goalscorer ever for his club. Had a few cameo's that season which is great for a youngster in France.
France is a very physical league where most youngster break through once they've passed 20 years.
When he was 17 he was fully added to the the squad. First used as an impact sub in the latter stages of matches and gaining a starting place at the end of the season. He was awarded Young player of the Season that year.
The next year saw him a starter for the squad. He made some dazzling performances in the Europa League. See the home game vs Liverpool for example. And he was pivotal for his team as they bottled their championship race in the last 4 games of the season. He was again awarded the Young Player of the Year Award and was runner up to L. Lopez in Player of the Year.
And well, last season he led his team to glory... Winning the double for Lille thus bringing them the championship after more than 50 years of waiting. Quite a feat when you compare the budget Lille operate on compared to the likes of Lyon and Marseille. He was quite rightfully awarded Player of the Season Award.
Their was quite a lot of interest, Inter and Arsenal being most named, but since they secured Champions League and he was looking forward to playing that with his 'friends' he had absolutely no wish to leave. Lille could ask the premium price for him thanks to that attitude and after the departures of Gervinho and Cabaye were in no mood to sell him. Arsenal did came in with a late bid in august according to some credible sources but Lille threw that out the window since they wouldn't had the time to look for an adequate replacement and they had ambitions of their own for the coming season.
I wouldn't underestimate the French League tho. They always seem to have at least one club reach the quarters of the CL and some of the most talented players out there were nurtured by that league. It's a great shopping ground to look for talent.
