The game winning saves are coming out from Ederson, which should silence those few still doubting he is also a world class shot stopper. He's not not let in many goals where you could say "that was poor" for me but due to the way we play he doesn't get many opportunities to showcase his shot stopping. The way he closed down Pedro was excellent, gave him little to aim at in the end and got the vital block in, which is what you want to see. The save from Higuain's effort was better than it looked, a lot of keepers would have panicked the way that ball moved or maybe tried to oversell it even if they managed to watch it all the way.
Shay Given said it best recently, some of his saves go under the radar a bit because he doesn't do them Hollywood style. I'm no goalkeeping expert but it seems logical that if a keeper gets his anticipation and positioning right, he'll rarely have to try and clear the length of the goal in a single leap. That fits with Peps philosophy of the team trying to keep on an even keel mentally at all times, no over excitement in the good times, no panicking in the bad times. I think that's one of the best influences Ederson has had on the back line personally. I used to think the criticism of Harts "passion" and shouting, was over the top from some but it's becoming harder to argue that constantly barking at the defence is necessarily better in the long run, especially in a system with so much to think about.
