Who is paying him? Benfica claim they have sold him so can't imagine they are, we have yet to confirm we signed him and I can't imagine he isn't getting his pay, so who is paying him?

I would imagine he'll still be under contract with Benfica until July 1st, as I don't think any transfer is official until then.

I guess there are few loopholes to selling someone - just assurance that the monies will be paid. In terms of buying there are a lot of loopholes in terms of registration etc - particularly where third party ownership is involved. The formalities are obviously sufficiently done from Benfica's perspective - and it's worth noting just how bureaucratic and pedantic Portuguese culture is - whereas at our end there are clearly outstanding but not insurmountable issues to iron out.

I knew about his wife giving birth, that's why he went straight back to Lisbon but I don't think that stops an announcement of completed transfer? It's all about the FA looking over everything but why does it takes 1-2 weeks to do that? Same with Mangala and Gabriel Jesus.

I think I'm right in saying De Bruyne's kid was also due around the time he signed for us? I know Klaus Aloffs was a turd to deal with but I think that also prolonged that transfer saga.

You could be right, it could very easily just be a case of the FA taking their time but it's certainly not going to speed anything along.
