The EDL are racist. It's pathetic that they spend so much time pretending not to be.

A friend of mine was a supporter of these in their early days and they really did make it clear they were anti-Islam and not anti Asian, black or anything else. As things went on they unsurprisingly attracted people who chose to ignore thier plea. It was pretty much accepted that once that had happened they'd lost any chance of ever being taken seriously.

Please don't have a go at me about what they stood/stand for - I'm just saying what I was told by someone I know quite well.

I think they are too thick to distinguish a race from a religion and also to grasp that the fundamentalists of any religion are undesirable.

I don't know if they've transformed or not but I do know that you cannot oppose terrorism and then be so brazenly supportive of Israel as they are. Islamic terrorism = bad, Israeli terrorism = good, doesn't work as a non-racist argument.

I'm glad I live in a country where people are free to take to the streets to have a march to publicise their views, whatever they are.

I don't agree with the EDL, but I hope they enjoy their march.

Shame on anyone who attempts to disrupt it.

Anyone who does disrupt it must have a very low opinion of me and everyone else. They assume that the EDL march could influence me in a way that wouldn't influence them.

They are essentially a conglomeration of football hooligan firms who want to be recreationally violent with a much lower risk of arrest because it's 'political' and the police don't want to create martyrs by arresting the EDL with them then claiming they are being persecuted for their beliefs.
