Yeah it's all a bit weird. I'm a Stopfordian myself. Not a fan but don't hate them. People have posted that they were mean to us when we were in the doldrums in the late 90s. I remember it well, but what's wrong with that? Football is tribal. I'm sure we've all been really supportive to the rag fans since they've been shit for the last 12 years!

Re-election was long before we were utter shite, but that was how it was done, there was an end of season "vote" by those in the FL, and in most seasons the team bottom would be re-elected (shocking I know). It was a bonus when relegation became a thing, but by that time stockport were on the up.

They got hideously giddy when we ended up in the same division, and eventually one above.

From years when they only played Friday night to avoid our games, so City and rags paid to watch their football, and bumped their crowds, to being above us, many jumped on that bandwagon.

I see they've failed tonight - meh.

A shame for County to lose but I think back-to-back promotions would have been a bit much for this group of players. It would have been nice to have a Wembley day out, though. With that said, they would have absolutely been eaten alive by next season's Championship and a relegation fight coming after 5-6 years of constant positivity would have been really tough to take.

County nearly went up from League Two via the play-offs in 2023 but lost the final to Carlisle who are now in the National League. Instead they just composed themselves again, added a number of handy players to the squad, and went up as champions the following year. It'll be harder to go up as champions from League One but at least Birmingham and Wrexham's massive budgets won't be an obstruction next season.
