EFL Playoffs time

Absolutely ridiculous. It only hurts the fans. Imagine you’ve followed your team up and down the country, spent a fortune on tickets travel hotels food etc and to have all that annulled through no fault of your own. You’ve basically been told that everything you did / watched / enjoyed/ despaired was a sham. Meant nothing. All a complete waste of your time money energy. All those times you traipsed up and down thousands of miles all the days you booked off work, the money you spent, the gruelling journeys home.
All for nothing.
A complete waste of your time.
It counted for absolutely nothing.
By all means sack the culprit, fine the club but don’t kill the fans.
If the offence was committed in order to gain a sporting advantage then it makes no sense to punish the club but still allow promotion which could have been achieved (in part) due to that advantage.
Fans are never considered when teams are kicked out of cups for fielding ineligible players or points are deducted for other offences, just as we won't be considered if the 115 fiasco goes tits up.

How would people feel if Southampton had beaten us in the FA Cup semi final and it turned out that they had spied on our training sessions?
Maybe they did as we didn't score from any corners and we are usually so good at those..........

They had a good game plan against us, and did very well. You'd wonder...

Though maybe they just watched hours and hours of our matches, which will be easily available, and did a ton of analysis?

I really don't see what the big gain is for a team spying like this. Only thing I can think of is team news (players missing training etc). It's madness.

Before the week's out I expect Borehamwood to demand a retake of the penalty shoot out! And while we're at it, what about docking the Arse all those points where pens weren't awarded against them and the red cards issued for the perpetrators to be delivered at the start of next season. Football governance? Makes Starmer, Boris, Nige and even Liz look like world statesmen.

Genuinely wouldn't be arsed, if any member of the public can see your training session without going above and beyond then you bring it on yourself.

Put a fence up so they can't see and if they use anything to go beyond that fence like a drone then I would deem it excessive.

We have a pitch hidden from outside view for the first team, I'd be impressed if they had managed to spy on us.

Equally we should be good enough to beat them

The state of the players health and set piece practice, but I'm not sure we do that anyway

What a mess. Punishment feels harsh but if Southampton had been thrown out of the Papa John's trophy for a similar offence then nobody would care. Its on them that they decided to wilfully break the rules for such an important game.

Re Boro - do i think they lost that game cos of the spying? Probs not. But any club in that situation would make the case that they have to be reinstated if they lost to a club that cheated in their prep for the game. Plus its what usually happens in other competitions anyway so its only fair they get to play the final.

Hull - Any club in their position would probs try argue they should be promoted automatically but they're trying it on a bit IMO. Sure they've lost prep time due to last minute switch of opponent but theyve learned their opponent same time as Boro AND also had longer to train for it.

Wrexham - You finished 9 points behind Southampton who gained one point fron the games they cheated in. You are not part of this conversation.

Best outcome for the league is that the final goes ahead woth Hull and Boro in it but that Hull win.

Yeah that's about it. I'm not even that sure on most occasions that just watching other matches will be enough for setpieces - I know something never tried before could be used, but in most instances it's just variations on what teams have already done in their previous matches.

What he saw is not a big unknown factor though. He was spying on a training session and that's the bit against the laws. Any benefit gained is irrelevant.

This has happened on three occasions, they must have gained some advantage on what they saw watching other teams training. If they didn’t why keep doing it?

This was first story on the BBC news on Tuesday night. Understandably it’s a huge story with the implications of promotion to the Premier League, where was the coverage from the media when Liverpool illegally accessed City’s scouting software and the clamour and debate about what sort sanction they should receive?

The club were naive taking hush money off Liverpool and showed a soft touch. Probably why the likes of Uefa and the PL thought they could try take the club down with their bullshit sanctions and charges.

There’s no real punishment in this situation that doesn’t feel overly lenient or overly harsh.

One of Middlesbrough and Southampton were going to feel aggrieved whatever the punishment dished out.

Had they not expelled Southampton, then every club could decide to pay any fine for spying on their play off opponents to gain as much advantage as possible.

This expulsion probably stops any other club from trying it ever again.
Still seems disproportionate to me. A guy with a mobile phone filming training sessions from 100 yrds away = more punishment than Chelsea got for financial fraud and deception over a number of years. Crazy to me.

Maybe Southampton should instead steal opposition club info from private scouting databases... Much less punishment involved.

The thing I think is off, is that Southampton have admitted to doing it 3 times - one v Boro, the other 2 I presume were league matches.

And I'm not believing at all that they did this for 2 league games but not for others.

So why is the points penalty for next season? Surely they should be knocking that off this season's total? Which might mean the playoff lineup would be incorrect.

Massive mess however it ends up now.

Part of the game mate.

The fans cop for whatever the club does.

When the club wins the league we get the buzz. When the club are cunts we cop for a dig.

I also find it hard to believe it was only those 2 games but for whatever reason, those are the only ones that they've been able to confirm so i guess that's all we have to work off.

In the midst of it being such a mess, the EFL must be relieved that Oxford won their game and that Ipswich were promoted anyway.

And if the points deduction were enforced this season, Boro and Southampton would still have faced eachother in the playoffs so there's minimal impact there. Its very messy but could have been a whole lot worse.

He was stood on private land. He shouldn't be there. The size of the fence is irrelevant when you trespass on private land.

"His car window was down so it's completely legal to rob the car radio". Or as I said earlier "her skirt was very short so..."

It's the same logic when trespassing. Just because you can physically get into somewhere, it doesn't mean you're permitted
