EFL Playoffs time

So if that happened to us, say the day before a CL final, and we ultimately lost the match because the spy had literally seen and heard everything we were planning to do, you’d be sweet with it?

You wouldn’t expect them to be booted out and the CL given to us?
I wouldn’t expect them to be booted out and certainly wouldn’t want us to be gifted a trophy we didn’t win on the pitch.

The advantage gained here is minimal. I’m not saying it’s right, but to pretend that this somehow completely changed the game and gave Southampton an insurmountable advantage is bollocks.

Southampton should be punished but in the form of a heavy fine or a points deduction next season, not by getting removed from the play-offs. If the EFL really insists on removing them then at least just give Hull the bye in the final. Reinstating a losing team is a farce

I thought the Saints fans would be fuming at the league for this. No, they’re livid at the club. The ones I’ve heard so far are all angry at the club for what it’s done. Some saying they won’t renew tickets.

What a shambles!

If only there was some sort of technology that allowed you to fly a zoom video camera high up in the sky and controlled from a distance…

… I would have thought this would be commonplace? Relying on a video camera operator hiding behind a tree seems very antiquated, has the 21st century not reached the south coast yet?

I expect they will now sack the manager. Claim it would have been on his say so, not any higher up than that. Then appeal and put it down to a rogue employee rather than a club wide issue and hope of leniency…

Their training ground seems pretty open from the pictures. Coild they not have hidden a Go Pro in the bushes and come back for it later?

I remember a scum goalie....watching penalty videos of opponents during a pen shoot out and nothing done.worked in their favour. Strange to be selective on such matters.
Freely available information not specifically related to a particular match Rather than a team preparing specific tactics for an opponent
The only way an opponent of City could spy is by drone since they have the walled area in the middle of the campus

By excluding them from the play offs and awarding the game to Middlesbrough they have awarded the team that was sinned against
Would suggest that this is where the punishment should end and will be reduced at the appeal, its likely that an appeal was anticipated and the punished set accordingly

When City trained at Platt Lane, they were always open to being spied on. There really wasn't anything they could do being it was council owned. When Frank Clark was manager, I was approached by Bernard Halford to contact BAE management team who were custodians of it's Lancaster Club Sports complex. The general idea was to develop the site to a high standard. They would also screen the whole grounds to stop prying eyes. The employees would benefit as they could share the facilities. The works manager who a few years earlier I had hounded to take over the running of the club as it was in dire need of refurbishment. Credit to him, by hook or crook he managed to get investment which saved the club house from wrack and ruin. The big problem, he was a rag !!! Obviously, he wasn't conducive to the idea and it never really got off the ground. Eventually he introduced Oldham Athletic onto the scene who used it as their training ground. With the demise of the factory it was sold to, I think, Oldham council. It was eventually bought by developers and is now a housing estate.

Maybe a better idea would have been for Saints to play Middlesborough in a one off game because it will be a farce if Middlesborough win the play off final

Imagine missing out on a potential 200+ million quid for sending some bellend to record a team putting out some cones and playing some five a side.

Harsh decision in my eyes, but absolutely daft by The Saints to give a green light to this.

Leeds got a measly fine as they didn't break any rules.

After they got caught spying against Derby this happened:
In an extraordinary news conference in the week after Leeds' match against Derby, Bielsa said he "observed all the rivals we played against and watched the training sessions of all opponents".

Don't see how that's really any different.

£200k fine versus kicked out of the playoffs. Not really equal in my opinion.
