After the dreadfully turgid football in the Pearce era, Elano was the player more than any other that heralded the new dawn. Within 3 minutes of the opening of the 2007-08 season he had glided through the West Ham midfield to set up a tap in for Bianchi and given thousands of us hope that things were changing for the better.

My question is how do you think he would do in the current team and under Roberto's management? Would he buy into it and knuckle down or get stroppy and fall out with the gaffer?

Obviously we know what happened with his mate Robinho but I honestly think Elano could've been a long term success at City if managed properly, the fact that he wasn't signed by Hughes counted against him in the end.

Would you have him back in the squad as it is now? I'd put him in no question, could cover anywhere in the midfield and even right back if needed! While obviously we've played some unbelievable football in the last couple of seasons I'm not sure it's approached quite the level of flair that we showed when Elano was in his pomp and the thought of him combining with Silva is mouthwatering. Still not seen a better penalty taker either, including Mario.

Please share your thoughts or just Elano memories :)

I remember against Hamburg where he played amazing he did that unreal freekick that smashed against the crossbar. What a goal that would have been.

He hit the post again with another free kick in that game.

He would have had a strop about not being being the penalty taker yesterday and would have walked off the pitch crying his poor little eyes out!

No chance.
